Montpellier Handball, formerly named Montpellier Agglomération Handball, is a professional handball club from Montpellier, France. Montpellier is the only French club to ever have won the EHF Champions League. History The team was founded as ''Cosmos Montpellier'' in 1982. In 1992 they were promoted to the Starligue, top division. From 1994 they were coached by Patrice Canayer who guided them to 4 French championships. In 2002–03 EHF Champions League, 2003 they became the first French team to win the EHF Champions League, when they beat Spanish Portland San Antonio in the final 19-27 away and 31-19 at home. In September 2012 18 people with connections to Montpellier, including 9 players, were accused of match fixing during a match against Cesson Rennes Métropole Handball, Cesson. Luka Karabatić
Luka Karabatic (born 19 April 1988) is a French professional handball player for Paris Saint-Germain and the French national team. He is the younger brother of Nikola Karabatić. Biography Karabatic was born in France to Croatian dad and Serbian mom. He came from a handball family – his father, Branko who is originally from Trogir, Croatia, is a former Yugoslavian handballer who played as goalkeeper in the national team. The Trophée des Champions is a Super Cup in handball created in March 2010 by the Ligue Nationale de Handball, the main body of French handball. Coupe De La Ligue Française (handball)
The Coupe de la Ligue was an annual League cup competition for French men's handball professional clubs. Organized by the Ligue Nationale de Handball, it first took place in 2002. He was run by the French Handball Federation for the two first years, and in 2004 the Ligue Nationale de Handball took over until it was cancelled in 2022.. Montpellier Handball is the competition's most successful club as of 2019 with ten titles, followed by Paris Saint-Germain Handball with three. In the 2019-2020 the tournament was cancelled at the semifinals, and in the 2020-2021 season, it was cancelled outright.. 2017–18 EHF Champions League
The 2017–18 EHF Champions League was the 58th edition of Europe's premier club handball tournament and the 25th edition under the current EHF Champions League format. Montpellier defeated HBC Nantes in the final to win their second title. Competition format ;Group Stage Twenty-eight teams participated in the competition, divided in four groups. Groups A and B were played with eight teams each, in a round robin, home and away format. The top team in each group qualified directly for the quarter-finals, the bottom two in each group dropped out of the competition and the remaining 10 teams qualified for the first knock-out phase. In groups C and D, six teams played in each group in a round robin format, playing both home and away.
