Montepaschi Strade Bianche
The Strade Bianche (; ) is a road bicycle race in Tuscany, Central Italy, starting and finishing in Siena. First held in 2007, it is raced annually on the first or second Saturday of March. The name stems from the historic white gravel roads in the Crete Senesi, which are a defining feature of the race. Around one-third of the total race distance is raced on dirt roads, covering between around and of ''strade bianche'', spread over multiple sectors. Despite its short history, the Strade Bianche has quickly gained prestige, and renewed interest in road racing on gravel and dirt roads as a specific skill and discipline. The event is part of the UCI World Tour, cycling's highest level of professional road races. Straide (), or Strade, is a village in County Mayo, Ireland. It is located on the N58 national secondary road between Foxford and Castlebar. The name Strade is an anglicisation of the Irish words ''an tsráid'', meaning ''the street''. Straide Abbey has a number of carved reliefs on its ruined walls. George Moore (1727–1799), who founded the Moore Hall estate at Lough Carra, came from Ashbrook House near Strade. Paris–Roubaix is a one-day professional bicycle road race in northern France, starting north of Paris and finishing in Roubaix, at the border with Belgium. It is one of cycling's oldest races, and is one of the 'Cycling monument, Monuments' or classics of the European calendar, and contributes points towards the UCI World Ranking. From its beginning in 1896 until 1967, the race started in Paris and ended in Roubaix; in 1966 the start moved to Chantilly, Oise, Chantilly; and since 1977 it has started in Compiègne, about north-east of the centre of Paris. Gaiole in Chianti is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Siena in the Italy, Italian region Tuscany, located about southeast of Florence and about northeast of Siena. 2007 Monte Paschi Eroica
The 2007 Monte Paschi Eroica was the first professional edition of the Monte Paschi Eroica road bicycle race, bike race, later called ''Strade Bianche - Eroica Pro, Strade Bianche''. It was raced on Tuesday 9 October 2007 in the province of Siena in Tuscany, Italy. The race was won by Russian rider Alexandr Kolobnev, who completed a solo, narrowly staying ahead of his teammate Marcus Ljungqvist at the finish. It held a 1.1 Union Cycliste Internationale, UCI rating on the 2007 UCI Europe Tour, 2007 continental calendar. Arrivo Corporation was a startup company in Los Angeles, California, that developed maglev rail. Arrivo initially attempted to commercialize a hyperloop, but abandoned the effort in November 2017 in favor of established transit technologies. In November 2017, Arrivo proposed a plan for a 200 mph (322 km/h) maglev system in Colorado that would transport automobiles to and from Denver International Airport. A cyclosportive, or often simply sportive, is a short to long distance, organised, mass-participation cycling event, typically held annually. The Italian term ''Gran Fondo'' is commonly used for these events in the United States, Australia and some other English-speaking countries. ''Cyclosportive'' is short for the French term (the spelling cyclosportif is sometimes also used but ''cyclosportive'' is correct as ''randonnée'' is a grammatical gender, feminine noun in French). Many cyclists use sportives to challenge themselves in a personal battle against the distance and then ultimately, the clock. L'Eroica
L'Eroica is an annual non-competitive cycling event which has taken place since 1997 in the province of Siena, Italy. The theme of the event is vintage cycling, with participants using vintage bikes (up to and including 1987), accessories and clothing, and the route often including unpaved roads. It is held in the first Sunday of October. The event is open to everybody, but cyclists participating with a vintage bike are honored with a certificate certifying their participation. The Monuments are five classic cycle races generally considered to be the oldest, hardest, longest and most prestigious one-day events in men's road cycling, with distances between 240 and 300 km.
