San Filippo Benizi, Montefano
San Filippo Benizi is a Roman Catholic, Baroque style church in Montefano, Province of Macerata, region of Le Marche, Italy. The church is dedicated to St Philip Benizi (1233-1285), credited with the revival of the Superior of the Order of the Servants of Mary. History The Servites moved a convent to Montefano in 1673 after closing another near Ginestreto. After the canonization of St Philip in 1671, the present brick church was built in 1694 to replace an ancient church. Consecration took place in 1703. The female convent was transiently suppressed during 1880-1897. The façade has two stories, flanked by pilasters, with a triangular pediment over the main door, and a rounded one over a superior window. A number of additions and ornaments were added over the next centuries. The chapel of our Lady of Sorrows was decorated by Tibalducci, a painter from Recanati. Collegiata Di San Donato, Montefano
San Donato is a Baroque-style, Roman Catholic church located in the town of Montefano, province of Macerata, in the region of Marche, Italy. History A church at the site is documented since 1308. The present brick collegiate church dates to 1768, when it was completed in a baroque style. The brick façade is a subdued and traditional two story church front with pilasters. The lateral flanks slightly recede. The interiors have highly decorated walls and ceilings. The nave is flanked by pilasters with gilded corinthian capitals. The walls and pilasters are decorated with floral arabesque designs; and the friezes with festoons. The church contains the tombs of prominent ecclesiastics and aristocrats of the region, as well as members of the later-suppressed Confraternity of San Benvenuto. The church has four chapels. Pope Marcellus II
Pope Marcellus II (; 6 May 1501 – 1 May 1555), born Marcello Cervini degli Spannocchi, was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 10 April 1555 to his death, 22 days later. He succeeded Pope Julius III. Before his accession as pope he had been Cardinal (Catholicism), Cardinal-Priest of ''Santa Croce in Gerusalemme''. He is the most recent pope to choose to retain his birth name as his regnal name upon his accession, and the most recent pope to date with the regnal name "Marcellus". His father, Ricardo Cervini, and Pope Clement VII were personal friends. Cervini served in the household of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese. When Farnese became Pope Paul III, Cervini served as his secretary and was employed on a number of diplomatic missions. On 10 April, 1555, he was elected to succeed Pope Julius III. Macerata () is a city and ''comune'' in central Italy, the county seat of the province of Macerata in the Marche region. It has a population of about 41,564. History The historical city centre is on a hill between the Chienti and Potenza (river), Potenza rivers. It first consisted of the Picentes, Picenes city named Ricina (''Helvia Recina''), then, after its romanization, Recina and Helvia Recina. After the destruction of Helvia Recina by the barbarians, the inhabitants took shelter in the hills and eventually began to rebuild the city, first on the top of the hills, before descending again later and expanding. Osimo is a town and ''comune'' of the Marche region of Italy, in the province of Ancona. The municipality covers a hilly area located approximately south of the port city of Ancona and the Adriatic Sea. History The oldest archaeological evidence attested in the territory of Osimo comes from the lower valley of the Musone river and its right tributary Fiumicello, which date back to the Upper Paleolithic (40,000-12,000 years ago). Recanati
Recanati () is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the province of Macerata, in the Italian region of Marche. Recanati was founded around 1150 AD from three pre-existing castles. In 1290 it proclaimed itself an independent republic and, in the 15th century, was famous for its international fair. In March 1798 it was conquered by Napoleon. The elongated historic center extends from one end to the other for over 200 metres and occupies an area of about 35 hectares. Its linear structure distinguishes it from most of the neighboring centers with a concentric plan, in which the inhabited area has extended from a central square. Along the margins of the central road, connecting the ancient housing clusters, there are numerous aristocratic buildings, for the most part on three floors, built by merchants or landowners.
