Monte Guilarte
Monte Guilarte, also known as Monte del Guaraguao, is the fifth-highest peak in Puerto Rico at above sea level. The mountain is located in the Cordillera Central, in the municipality of Adjuntas. It is so named after Captain Juan Guilarte de Salazar, a Spanish explorer and Conquistador, who was one of the first settlers of Puerto Rico. In 1513, Guilarte de Salazar led a column of 50 men to victory against 600 Taíno Indians in the southwest of the island. Cordillera Central, Puerto Rico
The Cordillera Central ( English: "Central Mountain Range") is the only mountain range in the main island of Puerto Rico, consisting of three subranges: the western-central ''Cordillera Central'', the southeastern Sierra de Cayey, and the northeastern Sierra de Luquillo. Bordered by the Northern Karst Belt to the northwest and costal plains to the north and south, the numerous ridges and foothills of the three subranges combined extend throughout the island. Adjuntas () is a small mountainside town and municipality in Puerto Rico located in the central midwestern portion of the island on the Cordillera Central, north of Yauco, Guayanilla, and Peñuelas; southeast of Utuado; east of Lares and Yauco; and northwest of Ponce. Adjuntas is spread over 16 ''barrios'' and Adjuntas Pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). Adjuntas is about two hours by car westward from the capital, San Juan. Spanish–Taíno War Of San Juan–Borikén
The Spanish and Taíno War of San Juan–Borikén, also known as the Taíno Rebellion of 1511, was the first major conflict to take place in Borikén, modern-day Puerto Rico, after the arrival of the Spaniards on November 19, 1493. After the death of Agüeybaná I, the Taíno high chief who struck the initial peace agreement with Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de León in 1508, Agüeybaná II rose to power. Taíno
The Taíno are the Indigenous peoples of the Caribbean, Indigenous peoples of the Greater Antilles and surrounding islands. Guilarte State Forest (Spanish: ''Bosque Estatal de Guilarte'') is one of the 20 forests that make up the public forests system in Puerto Rico. The forest is located in the eastern half of the Central Mountain Range or ''Cordillera Central''.
