Mohegan-Montauk-Narragansett Language
Mohegan-Pequot (also known as Mohegan-Pequot-Montauk, Secatogue, and Shinnecock-Poosepatuck; dialects in New England included Mohegan, Pequot, and Niantic; and on Long Island, Montaukett and Shinnecock) is an Algonquian language formerly spoken by Indigenous peoples in southern present-day New England and eastern Long Island. Language endangerment and revitalization efforts As of 2014, there are between 1,400 and 1,700 recorded tribal members (these figures vary by source). The Mohegan language has been dormant for approximately 100 years; the last native speaker, Fidelia Fielding, died in 1908. Fielding, a descendant of Chief Uncas, is deemed the preserver of the language. She left four diaries that are being used in the 21st-century process of restoring the language. Bayside is an American punk rock band from the Bayside, Queens, neighborhood of New York City, formed in 2000 by lead vocalist Anthony Raneri. The group also consists of lead guitarist Jack O'Shea, bassist Nick Ghanbarian, and drummer Chris Guglielmo. Montauk Station
Montauk is the terminus of the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road – as well as the easternmost railroad station on Long Island and in New York state. The station is located on Edgemere Street (CR 49) and Fort Pond Road, in Montauk, New York. History Originally built in 1895 by the Brooklyn and Montauk Railroad, it was demolished in 1907, then rebuilt twenty years later, only to be relocated by the US Navy during World War II along with a great deal of Montauk itself. The Navy confiscated the property along Fort Pond Bay in order to transform it into a sea plane base, and moved the LIRR property to the south with a third station built in 1942. The station was built in a similar style to the second station, but not the same design. The Montauk Project is a conspiracy theory that alleges there were a series of United States government projects conducted at Camp Hero or Montauk Air Force Station in Montauk, New York, for the purpose of developing psychological warfare techniques and exotic research including time travel. The story of the Montauk Project originated in the ''Montauk Project'' series of books by Preston Nichols which intermixes those stories with stories about the Bulgarian Experiment. The Montauk Point Light, or Montauk Point Lighthouse, is a lighthouse located adjacent to Montauk Point State Park at the easternmost point of Long Island in Montauk, New York. The lighthouse was the first to be built within the state of New York. It is the fourth oldest active lighthouse in the United States. The Montauk Building – also referred to as Montauk Block – was a high-rise building in Chicago, Illinois. History Designed by John Wellborn Root Sr. and Daniel Burnham, it was built in 1882–1883, and was demolished in 1902. According to Thomas Tallmadge, "What Chartres was to the Gothic cathedral, the Montauk Block was to the high commercial building". In his non-fiction book set at the World's Columbian Exposition, ''The Devil in the White City'' (2003), author Erik Larson claims that the Montauk became the first building to be called a "skyscraper" (Larson 2003: 29). William Larrabee (Iowa Politician)
William Larrabee (January 20, 1832 – November 16, 1912) was an American Republican politician from Iowa. He served as the 13th Governor of Iowa from 1886 until 1890. Early life Larrabee was born in Ledyard, Connecticut, to Adam Larrabee (1787–1869), was a West Point graduate and an accomplished soldier, who served with distinction in the War of 1812 and his mother was Hannah (née Lester). He was descended from the French Huguenot family d'Larrabee, who moved to Connecticut in the early 1600's. Larrabee was the seventh of nine children, and grew up on his father's Connecticut farm.
