Montanaro Castle
Montanaro Castle () is a castle located in Montanaro, Piedmont, Italy. History The building is documented in the 13th century in the deed of sale by which the Counts of Orio transferred their properties to Fruttuaria Abbey. In 1515, it was partially destroyed by French troops. During the 16th century, the castle was transformed into a Renaissance residence at the initiative of the then commendatory abbot of Fruttuaria, Cardinal Bonifacio Ferrero. The abbot was granted the privilege of minting coins by Pope Clement VII Pope Clement VII (; ; born Giulio di Giuliano de' Medici; 26 May 1478 – 25 September 1534) was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 19 November 1523 to his death on 25 September 1534. Foglizzo is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region Piedmont, located about northeast of Turin. It is part of the Canavese historical region.
