Mont-Cenis
Mont Cenis (; , ) is a massif in Savoie (France) (with an elevation of at Pointe de Ronce and a pass at an elevation of ), which forms the limit between the Cottian and Graian Alps. Etymology The term "Mont Cenis" could be derived from ''mont des cendres'' ("mountain of ashes"). According to tradition, following a forest fire, a great quantity of ashes accumulated on the ground, thus the name. The path of ashes was found during the building work of the route. Geography The pass connects Val-Cenis in France in the northwest with the Susa Valley in Italy in the southeast. Thence, the Susa Valley - the valley of the Dora Riparia - is followed to Turin (103.8 km / 64.5 mi from Modane). The carriage road mounts the Arc valley for 25.7 km / 16 mi from Modane to Lanslebourg, whence it is 12.9 km / 8 mi to the hospice, a little way beyond the summit of the pass. Modane
Modane (; ) is a Communes of France, commune in the Savoie Departments of France, department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regions of France, region in southeastern France. Pointe De Ronce
Pointe de Ronce is a mountain of Savoie, France in the Mont Cenis range. It has an elevation of above sea level. Geography Pointe de Ronce is located near the Mont Cenis Pass and overlooks the village of Lanslebourg in Haute-Maurienne. A wide circus, called 'Plan des Cavales', opens on the west side towards the Lac du Mont-Cenis. From the summit, a long ridge stretches south-east to Pointe du Lamet (3,504 m), Roche Michel (2,885 m) and to Rocciamelone. In the mountain slopes exposed to the north, recline two glaciers, namely glacier de l'Arcelle Neuve and glacier du Vieux. Maurienne
Maurienne (; ; ) is one of the provinces of Savoy, corresponding to the arrondissement of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne in France. It is also the original name of the capital of the province, now Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne. Location The Maurienne valley is one of the great transverse valleys of the Alps. The river which has shaped the valley since the last glaciation is the Arc. Susa Valley
The Susa Valley (; ; ; ; ) is a valley in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont region of northern Italy, located between the Graian Alps in the north and the Cottian Alps in the south. It is one of the longest valleys of the Italian Alps. It extends over in an east-west direction from the French border to the outskirts of Turin. The Arc () is a river in the Savoie département of south-eastern France. It is a left tributary of the Isère, which it joins at Chamousset, approximately downstream from Albertville. The Route nationale 6 is a trunk road ( nationale) in France between Paris and the frontier with Italy in the Alps. Reclassification The RN 6 runs parallel for a long portion of its route to the A 6 autoroute. As a result, portions of the road have now been downgraded as the RD 306, RD606 and RD 906. The reclassification is in part due to the centralized system of the French Government that did not allow local communities to care for the 'Nationale' roads infrastructure. Downgrading the Nationale 6 to local roads (RD for Route Départementale) allows the locals to take care of their infrastructure.
