Monheim Triennale
The "Monheim Triennale" is an international music festival that aims to document pioneering artistic positions in contemporary music. It is to take place every three years starting in 2023 at the "Kulturraffinerie K714", an industrial monument located directly on the Rhine, which will then be converted into an event venue. In 2020, the first edition of the festival will be held in several venues along the Rhine. The artistic director is Reiner Michalke, who was artistic director of the Moers Festival from 2006 to 2016 and is now programme director at the Stadtgarten in Cologne. History After a one-year planning phase, the city council of Monheim am Rhein unanimously decided on 10 October 2018 to hold the Monheim Triennale. Reiner Michalke
Reiner Michalke (born 1956) is the artistic director of the concert venue ''Stadtgarten'' in Cologne/Germany. From 2005 to 2016 he served as artistic director of the Moers Festival. Since October 2018 he is managing artistic director of the Monheim Triennale. Work as musician Reiner Michalke was born in Cologne, Germany. He studied music at the Cologne University of Music and economics at the University of Cologne. Between 1976 and 1986, he worked as a freelance musician with various groups (''Extempore'' and ''NoNett'' to name but a few). From 1980 to 1986, he also worked as a lecturer for bass and ensemble playing at the Musikschule Remscheid. Moers Festival
The Moers Festival is an annual international music festival in Moers, Germany. The festival has changed from concentrating on free jazz to including world and pop music, though it still invites many avant-garde jazz musicians. Performers at Moers include Lester Bowie, Fred Frith, Jan Garbarek, Herbie Hancock, Abdullah Ibrahim, David Murray, Sun Ra, Archie Shepp, and Cecil Taylor. Monheim am Rhein ( li, Monnem) is a town on the right (eastern) bank of the river Rhine in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Monheim belongs to the district of Mettmann – with the southern suburbs of Düsseldorf to the north, and the Bergisches Land to the south.
