Moneygall GAA
Moneygall GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in County Tipperary in Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the North Tipperary divisional championships, although the club is mainly known for hurling. The club represents the parish of Dunkerrin, which includes the villages of Moneygall, Dunkerrin and Barna. The Tipperary-Offaly county boundary runs through the parish. History In 1885, a local team called The Honeymounts was formed, named after the townland of Honeymount within the parish. This club's colours were black and amber. In 1889, they were challenged to a match by a nearby team from Ballingarry and Shinrone. In the early 1900s, the club became known as Moneygall. They were affiliated to Offaly in the early days and contested an Offaly Senior hurling final in 1906, when they were beaten by Coolderry. Séamus Ó Riain
Séamus Ó Riain (2 April 1916 – 27 January 2007) was an Irish hurler, Gaelic footballer and Gaelic games administrator. He served as the 22nd president of the Gaelic Athletic Association from 1967 until 1970. Born in Moneygall on the Offaly- Tipperary border, Ó Riain was educated at Coláiste Éinde, Colaiste Caoimhin and De La Salle College Waterford where he trained as a national school teacher. He subsequently worked as a teacher in Cloughjordan, Newcastle West, Borrisokane and Dunkerrin. Ó Riain first enjoyed sporting success during his studies in De La Salle. Here he won two county championship medals as a Gaelic footballer, as well as being awarded the gold medal for best all-round sportsman. Clonakenny GAA
Clonakenny GAA club is located in the parish of Bournea between Roscrea and Templemore and therefore is on the border of the Mid and North Division. Around the time of its foundation in 1905, Clonakenny played in the North division for a few years but for the life time of present club members Clonakenny has played in the Mid Division. Ironically, we won a number of North finals in recent years as part of a combination with Moneygall with whom we have joined forces underage. The club is one of the smallest rural Clubs in the county drawing on a parish with less than two hundred households. Its scarcity of numbers has meant that the club has mainly played in lower grade competitions at underage level since these grades were introduced. Tipperary Junior A Hurling Championship
The Tipperary Junior A Hurling Championship is an annual championship of hurling for male players in the junior grade and is organised by the Tipperary County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). The championship has been awarded almost every year since the first tournament in 1910. The series of games is played during the autumn months with the final currently being played in November. The championship has always been played on a straight knock-out basis whereby once a team loses they were eliminated from the series. The Tipperary Junior A Hurling Championship is an integral part of the wider Munster Junior Club Hurling Championship. The winners of the Tipperary county final join the champions of the other five counties to contest the provincial championship. The Tipperary Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition between the top Gaelic football clubs in Tipperary. The winners of the Tipperary Championship qualify to represent their county in the Munster Senior Club Football Championship, the winners of which advance to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. History Over the decades, the Tipperary championship has been dominated by teams from South Tipperary, with Fethard and Clonmel Commercials leading the roll of honour, though Loughmore-Castleiney from Mid Tipperary strongly challenge and were the 2014 champions. The Tipperary Intermediate Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Tipperary County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1979 for the third-tier hurling teams in the county of Tipperary in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Semple Stadium in October. The championship has always been played on a regional basis, whereby the respective champions from the Mid, North, South and West championships contest the county series of games. However, in recent years, the championship has followed the same system as the senior grade in Tipperary. Currently (2018) there are 21 teams in the county championship divided up into 6 groups (3 groups with 4 teams, 3 groups with 3 teams).
