Mondo Bobo
''Mondo Bobo'' is a 1997 Croatian film directed by Goran Rušinović. Synopsis Bobo, a young man, (played by Sven Medvešek) kills two criminals in self-defense. Acting on his lawyer's advice, he turns himself in, but ends up in a mental institution. He then escapes and meets up with his girlfriend (Mojca Židanik), but she is killed in a police shootout. With Bobo on the run, the police start a manhunt which also attracts a great deal of media attention, including an ambitious journalist (Nataša Dorčić) who follows the chase. Bobo then barricades himself in an abandoned house and takes a woman for a hostage. Production Director and screenwriter Goran Rušinović initially had an idea to create a true crime film based on life of Vinko Pintarić, a notorious serial killer, and to cast rock singer Davor Gobac in the lead role. Goran Rušinović
Goran Rušinović is a Croatian film director and screenwriter. After graduating from the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts Rušinović went on to enrol at the European Film College in Ebeltoft, Denmark in 1993, where he directed his first short film titled ''Kilo of Shrimp''. In 1996 he went on to the New York Film Academy where he made another short film titled ''Get the Hard Goods''. His first feature film was the independently produced '' Mondo Bobo'' (1997), which won four Golden Arena awards at the 1997 Pula Film Festival, the Croatian national film awards, including the Golden Arena for Best Director. His next film was the largely unnoticed ''The World's Greatest Monster'' (2003), but his 2008 film ''Buick Riviera'', based on a novel by Miljenko Jergović, won him the Golden Arena for Best Screenplay at the 2008 Pula Film Festival, as well as the main award in the regional competition at the 2009 Motovun Film Festival, and the Best Film award at the 2008 Sarajevo Film Festival ... Rotten Tomatoes is an American review-aggregation website for film and television. The company was launched in August 1998 by three undergraduate students at the University of California, Berkeley: Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang. Although the name "Rotten Tomatoes" connects to the practice of audiences throwing rotten tomatoes in disapproval of a poor stage performance, the original inspiration comes from a scene featuring tomatoes in the Canadian film '' Léolo'' (1992). Since January 2010, Rotten Tomatoes has been owned by Flixster, which was in turn acquired by Warner Bros in 2011. The Golden Arena for Best Director ''(Croatian: Zlatna arena za režiju'') is an award given for best director at the Pula Film Festival, which was until 1992 the Yugoslav equivalent of the Academy Awards. Big Golden Arena For Best Film
The Golden Arena awards were established in 1955 as the Yugoslav national film awards presented annually at the Pula Film Festival in Pula, Croatia, with the Big Golden Arena for Best Film its main prize. From 1955 to 1990 the awards were the Yugoslav cinema equivalent of the Academy Awards. The award is named after the Pula Arena, the 1st-century Roman amphitheatre in the coastal city of Pula, where film screenings preceding the awards ceremony traditionally take place. In 1991 the festival was cancelled due to the breakup of Yugoslavia, but then resumed in 1992 as the Croatian film awards festival, from then on excluding films and filmmakers from present-day Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, and North Macedonia. Pula Film Festival ( hr, Pulski filmski festival) is an annual Croatian film festival, established in 1954. It is held in a Roman amphitheater known as the Pula Arena. Pula Film Festival is the oldest Croatian film festival and is usually held in the summer, in July or August. Apart from film screenings open to the public, the annual Croatian film industry awards are also traditionally presented at the festival. The awards presented at the festival (called Golden Arenas) are the main national film awards in the country, and they serve as the Croatian equivalent of the American Academy Awards.
