Monde Lobese is a South African naval officer, serving as Chief of the South African Navy. Military career He left South Africa in 1985 to join Umkhonto We Sizwe and underwent training in East Germany before being selected for naval training in the Soviet Union. He integrated into the South African Navy in 1994. In 2009, he was appointed Director Fleet Logistics at Fleet Command as a Rear Admiral (junior grade). New Brighton, Eastern Cape
New Brighton is a township in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. It forms part of the greater township of Ibhayi and the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality which governs Port Elizabeth and its surroundings. History It was established in 1902, and was the first officially black residential area in the greater Port Elizabeth area. Prior to the establishment of New Brighton as the first black township, there was a demolishing of the then Black residential area in 1902 where the personal belongings of the Black residents were arbitrarily destroyed, and restrictions imposed upon their travel outside the demarcated area. Mosiwa Samuel Hlongwane (born 6 July 1962) is a South African Navy officer, who served as Chief of the Navy. Early life and education Hlongwane was born on 6 July 1962 in Frankfort, Free State (Orange Free State), but he grew up in the Vaal Triangle in a small township called Bophelong (Vanderbijlpark). He started school in 1970 at Mqiniswa Combined School (Bophelong), he completed his Junior Secondary School in 1980 at Lebohang Junior Secondary School (Boipatong) where he obtained his Junior Certificate. The Joint Operations Division is a component of the South African National Defence Force tasked with conducting Joint Operations involving the various arms of the SANDF. History The Joint Operations Division was established on 1 August 1997 during a major reorganisation of the armed forces. Before the re-organisation each arm of Service had an operations staff responsible for deploying its units as directed by the Service chief and the Chief of the SANDF. The Chief of the SANDF had an operations staff, playing a co-ordinating role. Following the re-organisation, each arm of service had to provide properly trained and equipped forces to Joint Operations. Joint Operations would then deploy these forces as necessary and revert to their parent service following the mission.
