Mona Kent
Mona Kent (1909–1990) was an American writer of radio and television scripts. She created several radio soap operas and is noted for having written every episode of ''Portia Faces Life'', which was broadcast from 1940 to 1951. She contributed to the television science-fiction show ''Captain Video and His Video Rangers'' as well as numerous other adaptions and original stories for radio and television. She wrote one novel, ''Mirror, Mirror on the Wall'' (1949), published in hardcover by Rinehart & Company, New York. It was reprinted in paperback in 1950. A soap opera, or ''soap'' for short, is a typically long-running radio or television serial, frequently characterized by melodrama, ensemble casts, and sentimentality. Portia Faces Life
Portia Faces Life, is an American soap opera first broadcast as a radio series from 1940 to 1953, and then on television for a single season in the mid-1950s. It began in syndication on April 1, 1940, and was broadcast on some stations that carried NBC programs, although it does not seem to have been an official part of that network's programming. The original title was ''Portia Blake Faces Life''. Stations airing the series, according to newspaper advertisements included WNAC in Boston, WLS in Chicago, KRLD in Dallas, KGW in Portland, Oregon and KFI in Los Angeles. The series became part of the CBS Radio Network, on October 7, 1940 and its title was changed to ''Portia Faces Life''. It was sponsored by the company General Foods. ''Portia Faces Life'' continued on CBS until April 25, 1941. Three days later, it moved to NBC where it continued until March 31, 1944. ''Captain Video and His Video Rangers'' is an American science fiction television series that aired on the DuMont Television Network and was the first series of its genre on American television. The series aired between June 27, 1949, and April 1, 1955, originally on Monday through Saturday at 7 p.m. ET, and then Monday through Friday at 7 p.m. ET. A separate 30-minute spinoff series called ''The Secret Files of Captain Video'' aired Saturday mornings, alternating with ''Tom Corbett, Space Cadet'', from September 5, 1953, to May 29, 1954, a total of 20 episodes. Researcher Alan Morton estimates there were a total of 1,537 episodes (not counting the 20 Saturday morning episodes), although few of them exist after the destruction of the original broadcasts, which was commonplace at that time. Rinehart & Company was an American publishing company founded in 1946. Renamed Rinehart & Company in 1946, the publishing company merged with Henry Holt and Company and the John C. Winston Company in 1960, to form Holt, Rinehart and Winston (HRW). History Frederick R. Rinehart formed a publishing house, Farrar & Rinehart, in partnership with John C. Farrar and Stanley M.
