Molenberg
Molenberg (literally Millhill) is a former mining colony in the south-western part of Heerlen, southeastern Netherlands. When work started in 1913 it was called Molenbergpark (Millhillpark). Website Heerlen The mining colony was created to house mining executives (alongside the slope of the hill, towards the centre of Heerlen), engineers (alongside the mean road), and miners. Jan Stuyt
Jan Stuyt (21 August 1868, Purmerend - 11 July 1934, The Hague) was a Dutch architect. Childhood and Education Stuyt was born the son of a cattle farmer. Due to the headmaster of his school, he was employed in 1883 at the office of Adrianus Bleijs (1842-1912), whose neo-Romanesque style would strongly influence Stuyt's work. Career In 1891 Stuyt joined the Cuypers office in Amsterdam, where he became an overseer of the building of the Cathedral of Saint Bavo in Haarlem between 1895 and 1898. He then had a short career as an independent architect, during which he built his first church. In 1899 Stuyt formed a partnership with Joseph Cuypers, son of Pierre Cuypers, which lasted until 1909. It seems that the architects in this period mostly worked on their own. Heerlen
Heerlen (; li, Heële ) is a city and a municipality in the southeast of the Netherlands. It is the third largest settlement proper in the province of Limburg. Measured as municipality, it is the fourth municipality in the province of Limburg. Heerlen forms part of the city-region of Parkstad Limburg, an agglomeration with about 250,000 inhabitants and encompassing 8 municipalities. It is to the east of Maastricht and north of the German city of Aachen. Frits Peutz
F.P.J. Peutz (7 April 1896 – 24 October 1974) was a Dutch (Limburgian) architect. Biography Peutz was born in a Catholic family in Uithuizen in Groningen, a mostly Protestant province in the north of the Netherlands. In 1910 he was sent to the Rolduc boarding school in Kerkrade in the Catholic province of Limburg for his higher education. In 1914 he graduated at the HBS, an old type of Dutch high school. After that he studied civil engineering in Delft. In 1916 he changed to architecture. In 1920, while still not graduated, he returned to Limburg to settle as an independent architect in the town of Heerlen, where the booming coal mining industry provided him with many assignments. Peutz played a major role in transforming Heerlen in a true, modern city. In 1925 he received his degree in architecture.
