Moise Corbet
Major Moses Corbet (1728 – 1814) was a British Army officer who served as the lieutenant governor of Jersey from 1771 to 1781. Early career Corbet joined the British Army c.1745. In 1748 he was an Ensign in the 7th Regiment of Foot and by the start of the Seven Years' War he had been promoted to Captain, sailing with his regiment from Ireland to help relieve the Siege of Fort St Philip (1756) in Menorca. The relief failed and his regiment moved to Gibraltar where he served until ill health forced his return to England. Whilst in England he married and became Aide-de-camp to Lieutenant Colonel Lord Robert Bertie the commander of the 7th Regiment of Foot He rejoined the regiment in Gibraltar and received promotion to Major on 14 December 1761 within the 7th Regiment of Foot. Major (Maj) is a military rank which is used by both the British Army and Royal Marines. Philippe De Rullecourt
Colonel Philipe Charles Félix Macquart, Baron de Rullecourt (9 July 1744 7 January 1781) was a French Royal Army officer who served in the American Revolutionary War. In 1781, he was mortally wounded commanding the attempted invasion of Jersey at the Battle of Jersey. Biography Philipe Charles Félix Macquart was born in Artois in a wealthy family originating in Orléans. His title "Baron de Rullecourt" was self-bestowed, and was a soldier for hire. He was placed in command of French Royal Army troops during the failed French invasion of Jersey in 1779, as second-in-command to Karl Heinrich von Nassau-Siegen. Two years later, he launched another invasion attempt on Jersey. King George III
George III (George William Frederick; 4 June 173829 January 1820) was King of Great Britain and King of Ireland, Ireland from 25 October 1760 until his death in 1820. Sir Isaac Brock
Major-General Sir Isaac Brock KB (6 October 1769 – 13 October 1812) was a British Army officer and colonial administrator from Guernsey. He is best remembered for his victory at the Siege of Detroit and his death at the Battle of Queenston Heights during the War of 1812. Brock joined the army as a ensign in 1785. By 1797, he was a lieutenant colonel with the 49th Regiment of Foot. The regiment participated in the Anglo-Russian invasion of Holland in 1799 and in the 1801 naval expedition against Copenhagen. In 1802, the 49th Regiment was assigned to garrison duty in British North America. Despite facing desertions and near-mutinies, Brock successfully commanded his regiment in Upper Canada (part of present-day Ontario) for several years. He was promoted to colonel in 1805 and appointed brigadier general in 1808. Philip Jean
Philippe Jean (or Philip Jean; 1755 – 1802) was a painter. Career and life Jean was born in Saint Ouen, Jersey, the son of Nicholas Jean and Marie Grandin.from Jean family history, private collection. He was at first in the English Royal Navy, but later devoted himself to painting. He was chiefly a miniaturist, yet also worked with oils. While settled in London, Jean painted portraits of many members of the British Royal Family, amongst them the portraits of George III, of the Queen Charlotte, of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and of their children. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1787 to 1802. Amongst other collections, his works belong to the Victoria and Albert Museum and Windsor Castle. Jean was married twice. Horse Guards (building)
Horse Guards is a historic building in the City of Westminster, London, between Whitehall and Horse Guards Parade. It was built in the mid-18th century, replacing an earlier building, as a barracks and stables for the Household Cavalry. The current and previous buildings were, between the early 18th century and 1858, the main military headquarters for the British Empire. Horse Guards originally formed the entrance to the Palace of Whitehall and later St James's Palace; for that reason it is still ceremonially defended by the King's Guard#King's Life Guard, King's Life Guard.
