Moira Macdonald
Moira Macdonald is an Australian-born entertainer and singer. She was a member of an '' à cappella'' group, Polyphony, which later became the Phones, "…one of the best live acts in Australia" (Melbourne Times). The Phones toured Australia and appeared on national TV, including, ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'' and '' Midday with Ray Martin''. The Phones performed at the Adelaide Festival of the Arts in March 1986, as part of the State Opera of South Australia's production of the original commissioned work, ''Boojum'', at its world premiere, with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in attendance. Macdonald lived in New Zealand for 10 years, she formed a duo with Tammy Jones, which performed comedy, musical and variety shows throughout the country. Macdonald developed a one-woman comedy-musical show, ''But Wait! ''A cappella'' (, also , ; ) music is a performance by a singer or a singing group without instrumental accompaniment, or a piece intended to be performed in this way. The term ''a cappella'' was originally intended to differentiate between Renaissance polyphony and Baroque concertato musical styles. ''Hey Hey It's Saturday'' was a long-running variety television program on Australian television. It initially ran for 28 years on the Nine Network from 9 October 1971 to 20 November 1999, with a recess in 1978. Its host throughout its entire run was Daryl Somers, who later also became executive producer of the program. The original producer, Gavan Disney, left the program in the 1980s and Somers then jointly formed his own production company, Somers Carroll Productions, with comedy writer and on-screen partner Ernie Carroll, the performer of Somers' pink ostrich puppet sidekick Ossie Ostrich. On 25 July 2009, the Nine Network announced the show would return for two reunion specials in late 2009 and hinted if they rated strongly, the show could return full-time. ''Midday'' (commonly referred to as ''The Midday Show'') is an Australian award-winning daytime television program, based on the variety format that aired on the Nine Network on 11 February 1985 until 27 November 1998. The show aired, like its title suggests, at noon, on a weekday schedule, and was a 90-minute variety programme with international and local guests. Tammy Jones
Tammy Jones (born Helen Wyn Jones, 12 March 1944), is a singer from Bangor, North Wales. Musical career Jones began singing at an early age, winning many Eisteddfod competitions, and was soon established as a regular on both radio and television in her native Wales, singing in both English and Welsh. Appearances on BBC Wales TV shows such as ''Hob Y Deri Dando'' and ''Clywch, Clywch'' followed, as well as her own TV show, called ''Tammy''. Her first Welsh record was released in 1965 under the title "Helen Wyn a Hebogiaid y Nos". Then followed a record of duets with Aled Hughes, ''Caneuon Aled a Helen Wyn''. "Take Five" is a jazz standard composed by saxophonist Paul Desmond and originally recorded by the Dave Brubeck Quartet for their album ''Time Out'' at Columbia Records' 30th Street Studios in New York City on July 1, 1959. Two years later it became a sleeper hit and the biggest-selling jazz single ever. Revived since in numerous movie and television soundtracks the piece still receives significant radio airplay. The single was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1996. Me And My Shadow
"Me and My Shadow" is a 1927 popular song. Officially the credits show it as written by Al Jolson, Billy Rose, and Dave Dreyer, with Jolson and Dreyer being shown on the sheet music as being responsible for the music and Rose the lyrics. Al Jolson was often given credits on sheet music so he could earn more money by popularizing them, but he played no actual part in writing this song. Jolson never recorded the song although he did use it in the touring version of " Big Boy" in 1927. Popular recordings in 1927 were by "Whispering" Jack Smith, Nat Shilkret (vocal by Johnny Marvin) and the separate recording by Johnny Marvin himself for Columba Records. The song became particularly associated with Ted Lewis who used it to close his act. The song has since become a standard, with many artists performing it.
