Moina
''Moina'' is a genus of crustaceans within the family Moinidae. The genus was first described by William Baird (physician), W. Baird in 1850. They are referred to as water fleas, but are related to the much larger ''Daphnia magna'' and the larger ''Daphnia pulex''. This genus demonstrates the ability to survive in waters containing Hypoxia (environmental), low oxygen levels, high salinity, and other impurity, impurities, including Dry lake, salt pans, and commonly eutrophication. An example of such an extreme habitat is the highly saline Makgadikgadi Pans of Botswana, which supports prolific numbers of ''Moina belli''. Moena ( Ladin: ''Moéna'') is a ''comune'' (municipality) and a village in Trentino in the northern Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about northeast of Trento. It is the largest comune in the Fassa Valley. In the census of 2001, 1,967 inhabitants out of 2,602 (75.6%) declared Ladin as their native language. Geography Moena lies on the Avisio, a tributary of the Adige river. The municipality borders with Falcade, Nova Levante, Sèn Jan di Fassa, Predazzo, Soraga and Tonadico. Moina Belle Michael (August 15, 1869 – May 10, 1944) was an American professor and humanitarian who conceived the idea of using Papaver rhoeas, poppies as a Remembrance poppy, symbol of remembrance for those who served in World War I. Early life Michael was born in 1869 and lived on what is now known as 3698 Moina Michael Road in Good Hope, Georgia, Good Hope, in Walton County, Georgia. She was the eldest daughter and second of the seven children of John Marion Michael, a Confederate States of America, Confederate veteran of the American Civil War, and Alice Sherwood Wise. She was distantly related to General Francis Marion on her father's side, and the Wise family of Virginia state governors on her mother's side. Shah Abdul Majid Qureshi (), also known by his daak naam Moina Miah (), was an early British Bangladeshi restaurateur and social reformer. He is notable for being involved in the early politics of British Asians and pioneering social welfare work for the working-class diaspora in the United Kingdom. He claimed to be the first Sylheti to own a restaurant in the United Kingdom. One of his later restaurants, ''India Centre'', often provided facilities and was a location where important meetings were held by the India League attracting the likes of Subhas Chandra Bose and V. Moina Mathers, born Mina Bergson (28 February 1865 – 25 July 1928), was an artist and occultist at the turn of the 20th century. She was the sister of French philosopher Henri Bergson, the first man of Jewish descent to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1927. She is, however, more known for her marriage to the English occultist, Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers, one of the founders of the organisation Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and, after his death in 1918, for being the head of a successor organisation, called the Rosicrucian Order of Alpha et Omega.
