Moin Uddin Ahmed
Moin Uddin Ahmed, known as 'Montu', was a physician and politician. He was elected a Member of Parliament from Undivided Rajshahi-1 in 1973 and from Chapai Nawabganj-1 in 1986. He was the organizer of the Liberation War of Bangladesh. Early life Moin Uddin Ahmed was born on 1 November 1936 in Shibganj Upazila of Chapai Nawabganj District. Shahjahan Miah (born 10 January 1947) is a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician. He was elected a member of parliament from Undivided Rajshahi-1 in 1979 and from Chapai Nawabganj-1 in 1991, 15 February 1996, 12 June 1996 and 2001 Bangladeshi general election. 1986 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 7 May 1986. A total of 1,527 candidates contested the election. The result was a victory for the Jatiya Party, which won 153 of the 300 seats. Voter turnout was 61.1%. Bangladesh Nationalist Party, the winner of the previous elections, boycotted the election. British observers including a journalist termed the elections a "tragedy for democracy" and a "cynically frustrated exercise". Background In 1982 a coup d'état led by Army Chief Hussain Muhammad Ershad overthrew democratically elected President Abdus Sattar, suspended the Constitution and imposed martial law. 1973 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in newly independent Bangladesh on 7 March 1973. The result was a victory for the Bangladesh Awami League, who won 293 of the 300 seats, including eleven constituencies where they were elected unopposed without a vote. Voter turnout was 54.9%. Though the Awami League was already the clear favourite before the elections, Sheikh Mujib's government put major effort into winning every seat. This led to a nearly complete obliteration of the opposition, with most of the leadership of opposition parties failing to win seats, including Major Jalil (Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal), Rashed Khan Menon, Kazi Zafar Ahmed and Aleem al-Razee (National Awami Party (Bhashani)), and Suranjit Sengupta (National Awami Party (Muzaffar)). Chapainawabganj (Bengali: চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ) is located in the north-western part of Bangladesh. It is a part of the Rajshahi Division, and was formerly a sub-division of Malda district.
