Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center
Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center is a state-run psychiatric hospital located in Utica, New York. It includes the McPike Addiction Treatment Center, a 68-bed inpatient facility, and runs a special education school for grades 4 through 12. History Utica State Hospital was founded in 1836 and opened in 1843. It was New York State's first state-run mental health facility, and one of the first of its kind in the United States. The building was closed in 1977, and is now used for records storage. In 1911 the state legislature purchased in nearby Marcy, New York to move patients from Utica State Hospital out of the city, although Utica State Hospital remained in use well afterwards. The hospital opened a division in Marcy in 1922. Marcy State Hospital was made an independent entity in 1931. In 1974 it became the Marcy Psychiatric Center. Utica State Hospital
The Utica Psychiatric Center, also known as Utica State Hospital, opened in Utica, New York, Utica on January 16, 1843. It was New York (state), New York's first state-run facility designed to care for the mentally ill, and one of the first such institutions in the United States. It was originally called the New York State Lunatic Asylum at Utica. The Greek Revival structure was designed by Captain William Clarke and its construction was funded by the state and by contributions from Utica residents. In 1977, the last patients were transferred to other care facilities and the hospital was closed. The hospital building is now used as a records archive for the New York State Office of Mental Health. Marcy is a town in Oneida County, New York, United States. The population was 8,777 at the 2020 census. The town was named after Governor William L. Marcy. It lies between the cities of Rome and Utica. The Erie Canal passes through the southern part of the town. The Central New York Psychiatric Center (CNYPC) is a maximum-security forensic psychiatric hospital in Marcy, New York, United States. Part of the New York State Office of Mental Health, it bears responsibility for mental health services in all prisons of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS). Mentally ill prisoners may be involuntarily committed to CNYPC. Sex offenders are also civilly confined there.
