Mohawk Valley Comets (NEHL)
The Mohawk Valley Comets were a semi-professional ice hockey team in the North Eastern Hockey League (NEHL) based in Whitestown, New York. The franchise was a strong team of mostly local talent coming from the Mohawk Valley. The Comets had a 16-4 record and were in first place during the regular season. When concerns of Comets players not being available for the final month of the season or playoffs due to their summer jobs starting, Coach Brett Boake requested a schedule change and the season was shortened by a month. The Comets decided 2 days before the playoff weekend that they were not going to participate as not enough players were available and they had financial concerns. The team did not return for the 2005-06 season. In 2007-08 Wayne Premo offered to purchase the rights to the Mohawk Valley that were held by the IceCats when league president Jim Cashman wanted to move the IceCats closer to his hometown of Fort Erie, Ontario. North Eastern Hockey League
The North Eastern Hockey League was a semi-professional ice hockey league from 2003 until 2008. It was created by entrepreneur Jim Cashman, who served as league president. The NEHL was built to focus on giving players that were not quite ready for the ECHL, United Hockey League, and the Central Hockey League a place to play and develop after their Junior and college careers had finished. In the 2003-04 season, nine total players moved up to the "AA" level and remained there and six of those players came from the York IceCats alone. Whitestown, New York
Whitestown is a town in Oneida County, New York, United States. The population was 18,667 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from Judge Hugh White, an early settler. The town is immediately west of Utica and the New York State Thruway (Interstate 90) passes across the town. The offices of the town of Whitestown are in the Village of Whitesboro. History The town, part of the Sadaquada Patent, was settled in 1784. The Town of Whitestown was formed in 1788, before the creation of Oneida County, with a size of 12 million acres (49,000 km2). The Continental Junior Hockey League (CJHL) was an independent junior ice hockey league based in the Northeastern United States and Canada. League President Jim Cashman is the former President of the now defunct semi-pro Gulf Coast Hockey League and North Eastern Hockey League. The Mohawk Valley region of the U.S. state of New York is the area surrounding the Mohawk River, sandwiched between the Adirondack Mountains and Catskill Mountains, northwest of the Capital District. Copper City Chiefs
The Copper City Chiefs were a low-level professional ice hockey team located in Rome, New York. The team was owned by Wayne Premo. Franchise History The Chiefs joined the NEHL as an expansion team for the 2007-2008 season. When the season was cancelled and the league folded mid-season in January 2008 the Chiefs after playing 8 games had a record of 4 wins and 4 losses. The owners tried to schedule Canadian Sr. teams to complete the remaining the home schedule to no avail. The team was announced as a member of the EPHL on April 22, 2008 but the name was not officially announced until July 2, 2008.
