''Mohawk Showroom'' is an American musical television program that debuted on NBC on May 2, 1949 and ended on November 23, 1951. It was sponsored by Mohawk Carpet Mills Inc. In 1951, the program was one of several NBC-TV shows selected to be shown to United States military personnel overseas via kinescope recordings. The same title was also used for a similar radio program in 1951. Overview Morton Downey and Roberta Quinlan initially shared hosting duties on the 15-minute program, Carmen Mastren and The Chieftains provided music, and Bob Stanton was the announcer. Downey starred on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and Quinlan was the star on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Because of the alternating hosts, the series was sometimes referred to as ''The Morton Downey Show'' and ''The Roberta Quinlan Show''. Sean Morton Downey (November 14, 1901 – October 25, 1985), also known as Morton Downey Sr., was an American singer and entertainer popular in the United States in the first half of the 20th century, enjoying his greatest success in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Roberta Quinlan
Roberta Quinlan (born Roberta Englemeier) is an American musician. Early years Quinlan was born Roberta Englemeier, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred A. Engelmeier, in St. Louis, Missouri. When she was a little girl, an operation on her tonsils lowered the pitch of her voice, and she focused her musical attention on piano lessons. She majored in music at Washington University in St. Louis. In 1937, doing a favor for a friend resulted in a career opportunity for Quinlan. A St. Louis radio station held a contest to select a vocalist for a program, and Quinlan went to play piano for a singing friend in her audition. At the contest director's urging, Quinlan also sang, accompanying herself at the piano. Quinlan won the competition, and her career was about to begin. Carmen Mastren
Carmen Mastren (born Carmine Nicholas Mastrandrea, October 6, 1913March 31, 1981) was an American jazz guitarist, banjoist, and violinist who was a member of the Tommy Dorsey orchestra from 1936 to 1941. Career Mastren became a professional musician in 1934 when he joined the Wingy Manone and Joe Marsala band. During the 1940s, he spent four years as a guitarist and arranger for Tommy Dorsey. After his time with Marsala, he was a studio musician, recorded with Sidney Bechet, then entered the U.S Army. He was a member of the Glenn Miller Air Force big band. From the early 1950s to 1970, he worked as a studio musician for NBC. He recorded one solo album, on which he played banjo instead of guitar. During the 1940s Mastren worked as musical director and conductor for Morton Downey, and from 1954 to 1970 Mastren played for '' The Today Show'', '' The Tonight Show'' and '' Say When!!'' on NBC.
