Sultan Ahmed Chowdhury
Sultan Ahmed Chowdhury (16 August 1932 – 19 June 1992) was a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician. He served as deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament. Early life and education Barrister Sultan completed his school certificate exam in Ctg. Govt Muslim High School in the year 1946 after that he passed H.S.C Exam with first division under Dhaka University in the year 1948. Then he completed B.A (hons.) in political science from same university and also perform his master's degree with a distinction in political science. In 1954, he was invited as honorary lecturer in same university's Political Science Dept. He passed the barrister-at-law exam with the highest marks in Constitutional law, constitution law and Mohammedan Law Courts Ordinance, Mohammedan law from Lincoln's Inn. Jatiya Party (Ershad)
The Jatiya Party ( bn, জাতীয় পার্টি, translit=Jatiyo Party, lit=National Party) is a conservative, nationalist political party in Bangladesh and is currently the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad, against the Awami League. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammad Quader. On 3 January 2019, the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However, the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of the opposition. Currently, it holds Rangpur out of Bangladesh's 12 city corporations. History The party was established by a retired army officer, Hussain Mohammad Ershad on 1 January 1986. He was the Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh Army. Chittagong-8 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh. The incumbent MP this constituency is Moslem Uddin Ahmad. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Chittagong City Corporation wards 3 through 7, and all but one union parishad of Boalkhali Upazila: Sreepur Kharandwip. History The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973. Ahead of the 2008 general election, the Election Commission redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the 2001 Bangladesh census. The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency. Ahead of the 2014 general election, the Election Commission renumbered the seat for Chittagong-16 (Sandwip) to Chittagong-3, bumping up by one the suffix of the former constituency of that name and higher numbered constituencies in the district.
