Mohammad-Hadi Shadmehr
Mohammad-Hadi Shadmehr () was an Iranian military officer who served as the Chief-of-Staff of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army from February 1980 until 17 June 1980. Shadmehr was appointed by then- commander-in-chief of Iran President Abolhassan Banisadr and was sacked due to "failure to stop the American incursion" in Operation Eagle Claw. Early life and education Shadmehr was born on May 17, 1920 in Tehran, to Yaghob-Ali Noor Mohammad (father) and Shahrbanoo (mother). He attended the Military High School, Military Academy, Post Academy Excellent College, War College, and Commander's College. In addition, he attended the University of Tehran School of Law. The Islamic Republic of Iran Army (), acronymed AJA (), commonly simplified as the Iranian Army, is the conventional military of Iran and part of the Islamic Republic of Iran Armed Forces. The position of Commander-in-Chief (''Farmandehe Koll-e Qova'' (), formerly known as ''Bozorg Arteshtārān'' (), is the ultimate authority of all the Islamic Republic of Iran Armed Forces, and the highest possible military position within the Islamic Republic of Iran. Abolhassan Banisadr
Abolhassan Banisadr (; 22 March 1933 – 9 October 2021) was an Iranian politician, writer, and political dissident. He was the first president of Iran after the 1979 Iranian Revolution abolished the monarchy, serving from February 1980 until his impeachment by parliament in June 1981. Prior to his presidency, he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Interim Government. Following his impeachment, Banisadr fled Iran and found political asylum in France, where he co-founded the National Council of Resistance of Iran. Banisadr later focused on political writings about his revolutionary activities and his critiques of the Iranian government. He became a critic of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the country's handling of its 2009 elections. Operation Eagle Claw ( Persian: عملیات پنجه عقاب) was a failed U.S. Department of Defense attempt to rescue 52 embassy staff held captive by Revolutionary Iran on 24 April 1980. It was ordered by US President Jimmy Carter after the staff were seized at the Embassy of the United States, Tehran. The operation, one of Delta Force's first, encountered many obstacles and failures and was subsequently aborted. Eight helicopters were sent to the first staging area called ''Desert One'', but only five arrived in operational condition. One had encountered hydraulic problems, another was caught in a sand storm, and the third showed signs of a cracked rotor blade. Valiollah Fallahi () (1931 – 29 September 1981) was an Iranian military officer and prominent figure during the Iran–Iraq War. Career Fallahi served as commander ground forces.
