Mohamed Ali Hassan
Mohamed Ali Hassan (, ), also known as Sheikh Mohamed Shakir Ali Hassan, was the Chief minister of Galmudug. He was Appointed on 6 December 2017 after a powersharing deal between Galmudug and Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a. Chief minister The chief minister presided over the state cabinet sessions but did not have the power to appoint or sack ministers. The President appointed the state ministers then forwarded it to the chief minister who then presented the names to the state assembly. The agreement also gave the president powers to sack the chief minister. Dusmareb (, , ) is the capital of Galmudug state in central Somalia. The city also serves as the administrative capital of the Galguduud province. Historically, the city was known as Daar Dheer or simply Dardher but later in time the city's name changed to Dusamareb also spelled Dhusamareb. Demographics As of 2016 the broader Dusmareb District had a population of 390,407 inhabitants. The city's population is from the Hiraab, Habar Gidir of Hawiye sub-clan. Ahmed Abdi Karie, nicknamed "Qoor Qoor" (), is a Somali politician who serves as the current President of Galmudug state. He assumed office on 2 February 2020. He was born in Hobyo, Somalia, on October 10, 1968. He is Habargidir Hawiye clan. He attended school and later moved to Mogadishu in his early years, where he studied at the Science College. Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a (ASWJ) () is a Somalia-based paramilitary group consisting of moderate Sufis opposed to radical Salafism. The group opposes extremist interpretations of Islam, as well as laws banning music and khat. The group seeks to protect religious shrines from demolition. Background and origins The Ahlu Sunna Waljama'a (ASWJ) was formed in 1991 in opposition to Salafi Islamist groups such as Al Ittihad Al Islamiya, under the guidance of General Mohamed Farah Aidid. He viewed the organization as an important counter-force to more radical Islamist factions.
