Moga Festival
Moga Festival (مهرجان موڭا: Arabe:) is an electronic music festival held annually in Essaouira, Morocco, inspired by the decorations of the series ''Game of Thrones''. History The festival founded in 2016 by Matthieu Corosine, Abdeslam Alaoui and Benoit Geli, an event dedicated to contemporary music and digital arts. It has a program in the sets of the series Game of Thrones in Essaouira to connect international musicians and Moroccan artists ( Gnawa Malems) with electronic music culture. Each year, the festival represents traditional Moroccan and electronic music for original projects created in this city, presented on stage during the festival. Program Moga festival invites amateur artists and musical groups to perform in this event for 5 days. They contribute to the development of the youth music scene through meetings in front of the public. The festival also has activities and workshops besides music to the community. Gnawa
The Gnawa () (or Gnaoua, Ghanawa, Ghanawi, Gnawi'; ) are an ethnic group inhabiting Morocco, that had been brought as slaves from the West African Sahel. The name Gnawa originated in the indigenous language of North Africa and the Sahara, Sahara Desert. The phonology of this term according to the grammatical principles of Berber languages, Berber is ''agnaw'' (singular) and ''ignawen'' (plural), which means "black person." Gnawa music was inscribed in 2019 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. History The Gnawa population is generally believed to originate from the Sahelian region of West Africa, which had long and extensive trading and political ties with Morocco. Essaouira
Essaouira ( ; ), known until the 1960s as Mogador (, or ), is a port city in the western Moroccan region of Marrakesh-Safi, on the Atlantic coast. It has 77,966 inhabitants as of 2014. The foundation of the city of Essaouira was the work of the Moroccan 'Alawid sultan Mohammed bin Abdallah, who made an original experiment by entrusting it to several architects in 1760, in particular Théodore Cornut and Ahmed al-Inglizi, who designed the city using French captives from the failed French expedition to Larache in 1765, and with the mission of building a city adapted to the needs of foreign merchants. Gnaoua World Music Festival
The Gnaoua World Music Festival is a festival for mainly Gnawa music artists, held annually in Essaouira, Morocco. It was founded in 1998 by Moroccan entrepreneur Neila Tazi and her A3 Groupe, a private event-organizing company located in Casablanca. The festival provides a platform for concerts and exchange between the mystical Gnaoua (also Gnawa) musicians of Morocco and invited artists from abroad. In this musical fusion, the Gnaoua master musicians invite players of jazz, pop, rock and contemporary World music to perform together.
