Moe (chimpanzee)
NASCAR Winston West Series driver St. James Davis and his wife, LaDonna, had a pet chimpanzee named Moe, whom they treated as if he were a child. After Moe bit several people, the city of West Covina, California, seized and placed him in an animal sanctuary near Bakersfield, California. St. James and LaDonna waged a long, unsuccessful legal battle to recover him. On March 3, 2005, while at the sanctuary on one of their frequent visits with Moe, St. James and LaDonna were attacked by two young male chimpanzees named Buddy and Ollie after they had escaped their enclosures. In the ensuing attack, LaDonna lost her thumb, and St. James was brutally mauled, resulting in permanent disfigurement and missing extremities. Background St. James and LaDonna adopted a chimpanzee named Moe in 1967, not long after his birth in Tanzania. Tanzanian poachers had killed his mother when he was one day old, leaving him an orphan. St. James and LaDonna were unable to have children due to Ladonna su ...

Battleships Asbjørnsen And Moe
The battleships ''Asbjørnsen'' and ''Moe'' were two fictitious ships that raised concern in the Swedish intelligence services at the time of the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden in 1905. A Norwegian emigrant to Argentina, the wealthy businessman and diplomat Peter Christophersen, Peter "Don Pedro" Christophersen, had negotiated with the government of Argentina to purchase two battleships. In the end, no deal was concluded, but the rumor disturbed the Swedes—and Prime Minister Christian Michelsen declined to deny that the purchase had taken place. The non-existent battleships were Ceremonial ship launching, christened the ''Asbjørnsen'' and ''Moe'' after the writers Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe. The incident took place in the context of naval tensions between Norway and Sweden following Norwegian independence, which came to a head in the Admiral Conflict (). At the time, the Royal Norwegian Navy was more suitable for coastal defense, but the S ...

Margin Of Error
The margin of error is a statistic expressing the amount of random sampling error in the results of a Statistical survey, survey. The larger the margin of error, the less confidence one should have that a poll result would reflect the result of a simultaneous census of the entire Statistical population, population. The margin of error will be positive whenever a population is incompletely sampled and the outcome measure has positive variance, which is to say, whenever the measure ''varies''. The term ''margin of error'' is often used in non-survey contexts to indicate observational error in reporting measured quantities. Concept Consider a simple ''yes/no'' poll P as a sample of n respondents drawn from a population N \text(n \ll N) reporting the percentage p of ''yes'' responses. We would like to know how close p is to the true result of a survey of the entire population N, without having to conduct one. If, hypothetically, we were to conduct a poll P over subsequent sample ...

Mixture Of Experts
Mixture of experts (MoE) is a machine learning technique where multiple expert networks (learners) are used to divide a problem space into homogeneous regions. MoE represents a form of ensemble learning. They were also called committee machines. Basic theory MoE always has the following components, but they are implemented and combined differently according to the problem being solved: * Experts f_1, ..., f_n, each taking the same input x, and producing outputs f_1(x), ..., f_n(x). * A weighting function (also known as a gating function) w, which takes input x and produces a vector of outputs (w(x)_1, ..., w(x)_n). This may or may not be a probability distribution, but in both cases, its entries are non-negative. * \theta = (\theta_0, \theta_1, ..., \theta_n) is the set of parameters. The parameter \theta_0 is for the weighting function. The parameters \theta_1, \dots, \theta_n are for the experts. * Given an input x, the mixture of experts produces a single output by combinin ...

Mount Moe
Mount Moe is a glaciated summit in British Columbia, Canada. Description Mount Moe is located in the Coast Mountains, and northeast of Whistler in Garibaldi Provincial Park. Precipitation runoff and glacial meltwater from this mountain's slopes drains into tributaries of the Lillooet River. Mount Moe is notable for its steep rise above local terrain as topographic relief is significant with the summit rising 2,100 metres (6,900 ft) above the Green River in . The first ascent of the summit was made in 1967 by C. Jennings and J. Nairn.Dick Culbert, ''Alpine Guide to Southwestern British Columbia'', 1974, p. 279. The toponym was officially adopted on February 27, 1978, by the Geographical Names Board of Canada. Climate Based on the Köppen climate classification, Mount Moe is located in the marine west coast climate zone of western North America. Most weather fronts originate in the Pacific Ocean, and travel east toward the Coast Mountains where they are forced upward ...

Moe Island
Moe Island is an island long in the South Orkney Islands off Antarctica, separated from the south-west end of Signy Island by Fyr Channel. It was charted by Captain Petter Sørlle in 1912–13, and named after M. Thoralf Moe of Sandefjord, Norway, a contemporary whaling captain who worked in this area. The northernmost point of the island is Spaull Point, named by United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) after Vaughan W. Spaull, British Antarctic Survey (BAS) biologist on Signy Island, 1969. Antarctic Specially Protected Area The island has been designated an Antarctic Specially Protected Area (ASPA 109) mainly for its biological values, especially the banks of ''Chorisodontium''–''Polytrichum'' moss turf and ''Andreaea''–''Usnea '' fellfield. The cryptogamic flora is diverse, though in places the moss turf is subject to damage by Antarctic fur seals. The mites ''Stereotydeus villosus'' and ''Gamasellus racovitzai'', as well as the springtail ''Cryptopygus anta ...
