World Hijab Day
World Hijab Day is an annual event founded by Nazma Khan in 2013, taking place on 1 February each year in 140 countries worldwide. Its stated purpose is to encourage women of all religions and backgrounds to wear and experience the hijab for a day and to educate and spread awareness on why hijab is worn. Nazma Khan said her goal was also to normalize hijab wearing. World Hijab Day has been criticized as spreading the misinformation that the head covering is always worn voluntarily, while women in Iran are forced to wear it. It has been noted that 1 February was also the date Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini returned to Iran from his French exile, which subsequently led to the enforcement of mandatory purdah and wearing of hijabs. Background Nazma Khan, a Bangladeshi-American, launched World Hijab Day (WHD) in 2013. She said that her aim was "to raise awareness and normalize the wearing of a hijab." Khan added that she launched the day due hoping for "foster ngreligious tolerance" ...

The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to God (Allah). The word Hajj means "to attend a journey", which connotes both the outward act of a journey and the inward act of intentions. The rites of pilgrimage are performed over five to ...

Ampang, Kuala Lumpur
Ampang, or Ampang Hilir, is a ward and city district, in the eastern part of Kuala Lumpur (KL) in the Titiwangsa constituency. Its area in Kuala Lumpur can be identified as being along the Ampang Road and Ampang Hilir. History Ampang's history is closely related to the history of Kuala Lumpur. In 1857, Raja Abdullah, a representative of the Selangor Sultanate, opened up the Klang Valley for tin mining. 87 Chinese miners from Lukut went up the river Klang and landed at Kuala Lumpur, then walked for a few miles through a jungle path to Ampang and began prospecting in the Ampang area. However, within a month 69 of the 87 miners had died due to the malarial conditions of the area, and Raja Abdullah sent another 150 men to continue the work. Eventually the death rate dropped, and the first tin was exported in 1859. The success of tin mining at Ampang led to the development of Kuala Lumpur. The name "Ampang" means "dam" in Malay and the place was named in reference to the miners' ...

Hujan
Hujan is a Malaysian indie rock band formed in Kuala Lumpur, in 2005. It was founded by vocalist Noh Salleh and lead guitarist AG Coco. Fans of Hujan are dubbed as ''Raingers'', as the band's name translates to ''rain'' in Malay. Despite the lack of love from certain quarters at early stage of the band, Hujan has had some of the most successful breakthrough music in Malaysia. In its early years, Hujan established itself as part of the Malaysian independent music scene, starting on the social media Myspace. Their first two EPs circulated around, namely '' 1, 2, 3, Go!'' (2007) and '' Check Check Rock Rock'' (2007) released by independent record label Noh Phrofile Enterprise. They developed a sound that is unorthodox and uniquely stylistic within Malaysian music, often between combinations of alternative rock and jazz melodies. Hujan found unexpected mainstream success and strength of radio airplay with '' Pagi Yang Gelap'', a single from their EP '' 1, 2, 3, Go!'' (2007). It w ...
