Miyun
Miyun District () is situated in northeast Beijing. It has an area of and a population of 460,800 (2010 Census). Miyun District government seat is located in Gulou Subdistrict. History Miyun was one of the places where Warlord Feng Yuxiang stationed his troops in preparation of the Beijing Coup of 1924. In the 1930s, Miyun District was occupied by the Imperial Japanese Army and became part of the area controlled by the East Hebei Autonomous Council, a puppet state of Japan. The Japanese occupation was challenged, however, when a local Taoist priest managed to incite Miyun's peasantry. As member of the Yellow Sand Society, he garnered followers and convinced them that they could become immune to gunfire through magical rituals that he performed. Thus highly motivated, the peasants launched a rebellion in July 1936 and defeated an East Hopei Army unit that was sent to suppress them. Miyun Town () is a town in Miyun District, Beijing, China. Situated near the Bai River, It borders Xiwengzhuang Town to its north, Tanying Ethnic Township and Gulou Subdistrict to its east, Guoyuan Subdistrict and Shilipu Town to its south, and Xitiangezhuang Town to its west. In 2020, the census counted 20,392 residents for this town. The name Miyun () is referring to the collection of tall mountains located at the south of the town, where clouds can be seen gathering around the mountain tops. Tanying
Tanying Area () is an area and an ethnic township located in the Miyun District of Beijing, China. Located on the south of Ye Mountain (冶山), it shares border with Mujiayu Town in its north and east, Gulou Subdistrict in its southwest, and Miyun Town in its northwest. Henanzhai Town () is a town located in the Miyun District of Beijing, China. Situated at the northwest of Ligu Mountain, the town shares border with Gulou Subdistrict and Mujiayu Town in the north, Jugezhuang and Dongshaoqu Towns in the east, Mulin Town in the south, as well as Beifang and Shilipu Towns in the west. In the year 2020, the census counted 24,155 residents for this town. The town got its name Henanzhai () for its location south of Chao River. Xiwengzhuang Town () is a town located in the Miyun District of Beijing, China. Situated on the southwest of the Miyun Reservoir, it borders Shicheng and Bulaotun Towns to the north, Mujiayu Town to the east, Miyun Town to the south, and Xitiangezhuang Town to the west. Gulou Subdistrict () is a subdistrict and the seat of Miyun District of Beijing, China. It borders Miyun Town and Tanying Ethnic Township to its north, Mujiayu Town to its east, Henanzhai Town to its south, and Guoyuan Subdistrict to its west. As of 2020, it had a population of 154,739. Shilipu Town () is a town located in the Miyun District of Beijing, China. Situated along the China National Highway 101, it shares border with Xitiangezhuang and Miyun Towns in its north, Guoyuan Subdistrict and Henanzhai Town in its east, and Beifang Town in its southwest. Guoyuan Subdistrict
Guoyuan Subdistrict () is a subdistrict located in the Miyun District of Beijing, China. It is located in the west bank of Bai River. The subdistrict borders Miyun Town to the north, Gulou Subdistrict to the east, and Shilipu Town to the southwest. Its total population was 88,764 as of 2020. Yellow Sand Society
The Yellow Sand Society (), also known as Yellow Way Society (), and Yellow Gate Society (), was a rural secret society and folk religious sect in northern China during the 19th and 20th century. Inspired by millenarian ideas, the movement launched several uprisings against the late Qing Empire, the Republic of China, and the Chinese puppet states of Japan. The Yellow Sands were eventually suppressed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in the second half of the 20th century. Simatai
Simatai (), a section of the Great Wall of China located in the north of Miyun County, 120 km northeast of Beijing, holds the access to Gubeikou, a strategic pass in the eastern part of the Great Wall. It was closed in June 2010 but has been reopened to tourists since 2014. General The section was originally built during the Northern Qi dynasty (550–577) and rebuilt during the Hongwu Emperor's reign during the Ming dynasty.
