Miwok People
The Miwok (also spelled Miwuk, Mi-Wuk, or Me-Wuk) are members of four linguistically related Native American groups indigenous to what is now Northern California, who traditionally spoke one of the Miwok languages in the Utian family. The word ''Miwok'' means ''people'' in the Miwok languages. Subgroups Anthropologists commonly divide the Miwok into four geographically and culturally diverse ethnic subgroups. Ione ( ) is a city in Amador County, California. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census the population is 5,141, which is a 35.1% decrease from the 2010 United States census, 2010 census. Once known as "Bedbug" and "Freeze Out," Ione was an important supply center on the main road to the California Mother Lode, Mother Lode and Southern Mines during the California gold rush.
