Mittagong Shire
Mittagong Shire was a local government area in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales, Australia. Mittagong Shire was proclaimed (as Nattai Shire) on 7 March 1906, one of 134 shires created after the passing of the ''Local Government (Shires) Act 1905''. The shire absorbed the Municipality of Mittagong on 1 January 1939. It was renamed Mittagong Shire in 1949. The shire offices were in Mittagong. Other towns in the shire included Hill Top, Colo Vale, Yerrinbool, Aylmerton, Willow Vale and Balaclava. Aylmerton () is a Northern Village of the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia in the Wingecarribee Shire. It is located north-east of Mittagong. The only buildings in Aylmerton are a fire station and houses, many of which are on farms. There is also an Aylmerton in Norfolk, England. Transport Aylmerton is positioned between the Hume Highway on its northwestern side and the Main South railway line on its southeastern side. Local Government Areas Amalgamation Act 1980
The Local Government Areas Amalgamation Act 1980 (NSW) was an Act of the Parliament of New South Wales, which amended the ''Local Government Act 1919'', with the purpose of amalgamating a series of local government areas in New South Wales. The amalgamations took effect from 1 January 1981. The Act Schedule 1 of the Act lists the areas to be amalgamated and the status of the new area (i.e. Shire or Municipality). The only area to be split by the Act was the Manning Shire, divided between the Shire of Great Lakes and the newly created Municipality of Greater Taree. Yerrinbool is one of the Northern Villages of the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia, in the Wingecarribee Shire. Yerrinbool is accessible from the Hume Highway (via Bargo or Alpine) and is about a drive from nearby Mittagong. It is to Hill Top as the crow flies, accessible by foot via a fire trail.
