Kanji
are the logographic Chinese characters taken from the Chinese script and used in the writing of Japanese. They were made a major part of the Japanese writing system during the time of Old Japanese and are still used, along with the subsequently-derived syllabic scripts of '' hiragana'' and '' katakana''. Chiyonofuji Mitsugu
, born , was a Japanese professional sumo wrestler and the 58th ''yokozuna'' of the sport. Following his retirement as a wrestler, he was the stable master of Kokonoe stable until the time of his death. Chiyonofuji was considered one of the greatest ''yokozuna'' of recent times, winning 31 ''yūshō'' or tournament championships, second at the time only to Taihō. He was particularly remarkable for his longevity in sumo's top rank, which he held for a period of ten years from 1981 to 1991. Promoted at the age of twenty-six after winning his second championship, his performance improved with age, winning more tournaments in his thirties than any other wrestler and dominating the sport in the second half of the 1980s. Mitsugu Mori
was an officer and ace fighter pilot in the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during the January 28 Incident, the Second Sino-Japanese War, and the Pacific theater of World War II. As a member of the 12th Air Group during the Second Sino-Japanese War, Mori was officially credited with destroying four Chinese aircraft in aerial combat. Mitsugu Ōnishi
Mitsugu Ōnishi (大西みつぐ,His personal name was originally written 貢. ''Ōnishi Mitsugu''; born 7 October 1952) is a Japanese photographer. Born in Tokyo, Ōnishi graduated from the Tokyo College of Photography in 1974, rejoining a year later as a teacher, and staying there in that capacity until 1994. Ōnishi photographed everyday life and his native Tokyo; he later turned his attention to suburban housing projects. Ōnishi won the 22nd Taiyō award in 1985, and the 18th Kimura Ihei Award in 1993. Mitsugu Saotome
was the pen-name of Kanegae Hideyoshi, a Japanese writer of historical fiction in Shōwa and Heisei period Japan. He won the Yoshikawa Eiji Prize for Literature and the Naoki Prize. Biography Saotome's grandfather was a samurai of Aizu Domain, and following the defeat of the domain in the Boshin War, immigrated to the United States. However, he later returned to Yokohama and from there to Shanghai. Saotomo was born in Harbin, Manchuria in Northeast China, and thus was raised in Manchukuo; however, following the defeat of Japan in World War II, he was evacuated to Kyushu in 1946. He moved to Tokyo in 1948, and attended Keio University's Literature Department, but left school before graduating. In 1954, the noted author, Yamamoto Shugoro, agreed to become his tutor.
