Mitch Lowe
J. Mitchell Lowe (born 1951/1952) is an American businessman known for his work in the video and rental industry. He was the CEO of MoviePass, a subscription service that charged members a monthly fee for Ticket (admission), movie tickets at cinemas. He has also served as an executive at Netflix and the president of Redbox. Career Lowe was president of Video Droid from June 1984 to March 1998. Following Video Droid, Lowe was vice president of Business Development and Strategic Alliances for Netflix from March 1998 to January 2003. Redbox Automated Retail, LLC was an American video rental and streaming media company, based in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois west of Chicago. Redbox specialized in automated DVD rental kiosks, and operated transactional and ad-supported streaming video and television services. MoviePass, Inc. is an American subscription-based movie ticketing service owned by co-founder Stacy Spikes. The service was launched in 2011 and allowed subscribers to purchase up to a movie ticket a day for a monthly fee. The service utilized a mobile app, where users check in to a theater and choose a movie and showtime, which resulted in the cost of the ticket being loaded to a prepaid debit card, which was used to purchase the ticket from the movie theater. In 2017, the service was acquired by Helios and Matheson Analytics (HMNY) and the subscription cost was significantly lowered to $9.95 per month.
