Missouri Route 21
Route 21 is a highway in eastern Missouri. Its northern terminus is at Route 30 in Affton. Its southern terminus is at the Arkansas-Missouri state line (where it continues as Highway 115). In the St. Louis area, it is known as Tesson Ferry Road, which was named after the 19th century proprietor of the ferry across the Meramec River. Route 21 from the Meramec River to Route B, along with Route M, make up the Jefferson County Scenic Byway. Improvements The section through northern Jefferson County, Missouri was considered dangerous. As a result, the road was rerouted and built to freeway standards. Construction to reroute the highway to just south of Hillsboro was completed on December 15, 2008 and Route 21 is currently freeway standard from Route 141 to Highway B. Plans to extend the freeway south to De Soto have been approved, but funds are lacking to complete this part of the project. Missouri Route 72
Route 72 is a highway in southern Missouri. Its eastern terminus is at Missouri Route 34, Route 34 west of Jackson, Missouri, Jackson; its western terminus is at Interstate 44 in Missouri, I-44 in Rolla, Missouri, Rolla. Route 72 is one of the original 1922 state highways. Its eastern terminus was at Centerville, and its western terminus was at the junction with Missouri Route 32, Route 32. Ellington, Missouri
Ellington is a city in Reynolds County, Missouri, United States. The population was 790 at the 2020 census. In 1925, the infamous Tri-State Tornado began just northwest of Ellington. History Ellington, formerly known as Barnesville, was renamed in 1856 for Sina Huff Ellington, who permitted a railroad line to be extended through her family's farmland. Arkansas Highway 115
Highway 115 (AR 115, Ark. 115, and Hwy. 115) is a state highway in Northeast Arkansas. The route begins at US Highway 167 and Highway 58 in Cave City and runs northeast to Missouri Route 21 near Doniphan, Missouri, including a concurrency with US 62/ US 412 between Imboden and Pocahontas. The highway is maintained by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT). One of the original 1926 Arkansas state highways, modern-day Highway 115 was established as State Road 79 between Cave City and Missouri, largely along its modern alignment. The alignment was rerouted between Imboden to Smithville in 1928, and an overlap was created between Pocahontas and Imboden when US 62 was designated across the state in 1931. De Soto, Missouri
De Soto is a city in Jefferson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 6,449 at the 2020 census and the city is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The Van Metre family were first to settle in 1803. The town was organized in 1857 and is named for the explorer Hernando De Soto, who claimed the Louisiana Territory for Spain. De Soto was the city closest to the mean center of U.S. population in 1980. The city celebrated its Bicentennial in 2003. The city made national news on and after May 6, 2003, when straight-line winds and a tornado struck. Missouri Route M (Jefferson County)
Route M is a short arterial highway in Jefferson County, Missouri. It is a major east–west route which connects Route 21 to Interstate 55. For the majority of its length, Route M is a four lane divided highway with limited access. At its junction with Interstate 55, Route M becomes an undivided two lane road until its eastern terminus at U.S. 61/ 67. Route M was rerouted to its present location in the late 1990s after traffic became too great for the original road to handle. The original route is now known as Old Route M.
