Mississippi Highway 385 (MS 385) is an unsigned state highway located entirely within Chickasaw County in the U.S. State of Mississippi. The entire length of MS 385 is maintained by Chickasaw County. MS 385's southern terminus is at the northern terminus of MS 47 and Aberdeen Road in Buena Vista and the northern terminus is at MS 32 in Van Vleet. Route description MS 385 starts at MS 47 and County Road 406 (CR 406) in Buena Vista, and travels northward along CR 402. The road turns northwest, and it intersects CR 159. The road transitions into a gravel road after passing through several houses. The road enters the Tombigbee National Forest, and it turns northeast past CR 163. It leaves the forest and begins traveling through farmland again. At CR 151, it turns west and continues along CR 402. Chickasaw County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 17,392. Its county seats are Houston and Okolona. The county is named for the Chickasaw people, who lived in this area for hundreds of years. Most were forcibly removed to Indian Territory in the 1830s, but some remained and became citizens of the state and the United States. Buena Vista, also known as Monterey, is an unincorporated community in Chickasaw County, Mississippi, United States. History Buena Vista was incorporated in 1884 and unincorporated at a later date. The community was originally named Monterey in honor of the Battle of Monterrey, where the Mississippi Rifles served under Colonel Jefferson Davis. Later that year, the name was changed to Buena Vista in honor of the Battle of Buena Vista, where the Mississippi troops and Davis again served. A post office only operated under the name Monterey in 1847 and operated under the name Buena Vista from 1847 to 1972. Buena Vista was once home to multiple stores and two churches. The Buena Vista Normal College opened in Buena Vista in 1885 and was chartered by the state of Mississippi the following year. Mississippi Highway 47 (MS 47) is a state highway located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The route starts at MS 50 west of West Point in Clay County. The road then travels northwest through small communities in Clay and Chickasaw counties, and it intersects MS 8 in Trebloc, Chickasaw County. MS 47 ends at Aberdeen Road near Buena Vista, and the road continues as MS 385. Tombigbee National Forest
Tombigbee National Forest is a U.S. National Forest in eastern and northeastern Mississippi. It is named for the nearby Tombigbee River. It is divided geographically into two non-contiguous sections. The larger southern section, about 60% of the total acreage, is located north of Louisville, in parts of Winston, Choctaw, and Oktibbeha counties in eastern Mississippi. The smaller northern section, about 40% of the total acreage, is located northeast of Houston, in parts of Chickasaw and Pontotoc counties in northeastern Mississippi.
