Mission San Francisco Solano (California)
Mission San Francisco Solano was the 21st, last, and northernmost Spanish missions in California, mission in Alta California. It was named for Saint Francis Solanus. It was the only Spanish missions in California, mission built in Alta California after Mexican War of Independence, Mexico gained independence from Spain. The difficulty of its beginning demonstrates the confusion resulting from that change in governance. The California Governor wanted a robust Mexican presence north of the San Francisco Bay to keep the Russian-American Company, Russians who had established Fort Ross, California, Fort Ross on the Pacific coast from moving further inland. A young Franciscan friar from Mission San Francisco de Asis wanted to move to a location with a better climate and access to a larger number of potential converts. Mission San Francisco Solano (Mexico)
Mission San Francisco Solano was a Spanish mission established March 1, 1700 by Franciscan missionaries. Along with Mission San Juan Bautista, Mission San Bernardo, and the nearby San Juan Bautista , it belonged to a complex collectively known as the San Juan Bautista Missions. History The mission was officially founded on March 1, 1700 by Diego Ramón, with Franciscan missonaries Antonio de Olivares and Francisco Hidalgo in attendance. It was originally located from the Rio Grande in Coahuila state, northeastern Mexico, in what is today the Municipality of Guerrero. The Native American people brought into the mission belonged to various Coahuiltecan groups. The Terocodame and Xarame tribes were the most numerous; other groups present included the Jaram, Papanac, Payaguá, and Kumeyaay. Baptismal records show Payaya present by the year 1706. Fort Ross, California
Fort Ross (, , Kashaya: ) is a former Russian establishment on the west coast of North America in what is now Sonoma County, California. Owned and operated by the Russian-American Company, it was the hub of the southernmost Russian settlements in North America from 1812 to 1841. Notably cosmopolitan, different ethnic groups settled in and around the fort: Native Californians, Native Alaskans, Russians, Finns, Swedes. It has been the subject of archaeological investigation and is a California Historical Landmark, a National Historic Landmark, and on the National Register of Historic Places. Sequoioideae, commonly referred to as redwoods, is a subfamily of coniferous trees within the family Cupressaceae, that range in the northern hemisphere. It includes the largest and tallest trees in the world. The trees in the subfamily are amongst the most notable trees in the world and are common ornamental trees. Bodega Bay
Bodega Bay () is a shallow, rocky inlet of the Pacific Ocean on the coast of northern California in the United States. It is approximately across and is located approximately northwest of San Francisco and west of Santa Rosa, California, Santa Rosa. The bay straddles the boundary between Sonoma County, California, Sonoma County to the north and Marin County, California, Marin County to the south. Luis Antonio Argüello (; June 21, 1784 – March 27, 1830) was the first Californio (native-born) List of pre-statehood governors of California, governor of Alta California, and the first to take office under Mexico, Mexican rule. The Mission San Francisco de Asís (), also known as Mission Dolores, is a historic Catholic Church, Catholic church complex in San Francisco, San Francisco, California.
