Miss World 2013
Miss World 2013 was the 63rd edition of the Miss World pageant, held at the Bali International Convention Center in Bali, South Kuta, Indonesia, on 28 September 2013. Yu Wenxia of China crowned Megan Young of the Philippines as her successor at the end of the event, marking the only time to date that the Philippines has won the Miss World title. This victory also made the Philippines the third country to win all of the Big Four international beauty pageants. Background Location and date It was the first time in Southeast Asia and it also was the first time in the pageant's history that the event was held in a Muslim majority country. Megan Lynne Talde Young-Daez (; née Young; born February 27, 1990) is a Filipino actress and beauty queen, who won Miss World Philippines 2013 title and was later crowned Miss World 2013. She is the first delegate from the Philippines and Southeast Asia to win the title of Miss World. Young started as a contestant on the reality television show ''StarStruck (Philippine TV series), StarStruck''. The Big Four or the Big League Pageants refers to the four major international beauty pageants for women — Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss International and Miss Earth. The group was first described by the ''China Daily'' newspaper in 2004 as "the world's four major beauty contests". In April 2008, the ''South China Morning Post'' described them as "four of the world's top beauty pageants"; the same description was also used by South Korea's leading newspaper, ''Chosun Ilbo'' in 2010. Miss World 1988
Miss World 1988, the 38th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 17 November 1988 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, United Kingdom. The winner was Linda Pétursdóttir (''Queen of Europe'') from Iceland. She was crowned by Miss World 1987, Ulla Weigerstorfer of Austria. Runner-up was Yeon-hee Choi (''Queen of Asia'') representing South Korea and third was Kirsty Roper from the United Kingdom. Miss World 1978 was the 28th edition of the Miss World pageant, held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, United Kingdom on 16 November 1978. At the end of the event, Mary Stävin of Sweden crowned Silvana Suárez of Argentina as the new Miss World, this was the second time Argentina has won Miss World. Contestants from sixty-eight countries and territories competed in this year's pageant. The pageant was hosted by Paul Burnett and Sascha Distel. Distel also performed in this year's pageant. Miss World 1975 was the 25th edition of the Miss World pageant, held on 20 November 1975 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, United Kingdom. 67 contestants took part in the pageant won by Wilnelia Merced of Puerto Rico. She was crowned by Anneline Kriel of South Africa. Sarong
A sarong or a sarung (, ) is a large tube or length of textile, fabric, often wrapped around the waist, worn in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Western Asia, Northern Africa, East Africa, West Africa, and on many Pacific islands. Julia Evelyn Morley (née Pritchard; born 25 October 1939) is an English businesswoman, charity worker and former model. She is the chairman and CEO of the Miss World Organization, which organizes the Miss World and Mister World pageants. She is the widow of Miss World creator, the late Eric Morley who organized the pageant from its inception in July 1951, until his death in 2000.
