Miss World 1993
Miss World 1993, the 43rd edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 27 November 1993 at the Sun City Entertainment Centre in Sun City, South Africa. It was the second time that the Miss World pageant was held in the South Africa.The pageant attracted 81 contestants from all over the world. This is the second consecutive staging of the pageant in Sun City. The winner was Lisa Hanna of Jamaica. She was crowned by Julia Kourotchkina of Russia. She become the third Jamaican to win Miss World since Carole Crawford in Miss World 1963 and Cindy Breakspeare in Miss World 1976. Selection of participants Replacements Miss Iceland 1993, Svala Björk Arnardóttir was replaced by her first runner up, Gudrun Rut Hreidarsdóttir due undisclosed reason. Lisa Rene Shanti Hanna (born 20 August 1975) is a Jamaican politician and beauty queen who was crowned Miss World 1993, becoming the third Jamaican to win the title. A member of the opposition People's National Party, Hanna currently serves as Member of Parliament for Saint Ann South East, and was Jamaica's Minister of Youth and Culture from 2012–2016. Hanna was a candidate in the 2020 People's National Party leadership election, following the PNP's defeat at the 2020 Jamaican general election and the subsequent resignation of PNP President and Opposition Leader, Peter Phillips. Miss World 1991 was the 41st edition of the Miss World pageant, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States, on 28 December 1991. Gina Tolleson of the United States crowned Ninibeth Leal of Venezuela as her successor at the end of the event. Miss World 1991 was scheduled to be held in the Dominican Republic due to scheduling difficulties, Miss World was first moved to Puerto Rico, then to Atlanta, the United States. Preliminary swimsuits in Miss World 1991 were held in South Africa. Eric Douglas Morley (26 September 1918 – 9 November 2000) was an English television host and the founder of the Miss World pageant and ''Come Dancing'' programme. His widow, Julia Morley, is now head of the pageant and his son, Steve Douglas, is one of its presenters. Life and career Morley was born in Holborn, London, England.
