"Miss World" is a song by American alternative rock band Hole (band), Hole, written by frontwoman Courtney Love and lead guitarist Eric Erlandson. The song was released as the lead single from their second studio album, ''Live Through This'', on March 21, 1994. The single was released in the United States on Tim/Kerr Records, an independent label in Portland, Oregon, on a 7-inch pink vinyl, as well as a limited edition picture disc pressing paired with the band's cover of "Over the Edge" by the Wipers (band), Wipers. City Slang released CD and vinyl versions of the single in Europe, both with "Rock Star" (Alternate Mix) as a B-side. A music video for the song was directed by Sophie Muller in March 1994 and released in promotion with the single. The song was released as the band's eighth song and fourth and final single from their second studio album, ''Live Through This'', in January 1996. The single was released only in Australia and the Netherlands just as the band finished their extensive touring in 1995. Origin and recording Erlandson and Love are known to have written "Softer, Softest" as early as December 1991, at which time it was performed live during the band's tour of the United Kingdom in winter 1991. Patricia Theresa Schemel (born April 24, 1967) is an American drummer and musician who rose to prominence as the drummer of alternative rock band Hole from 1992 until 1998. Born in Los Angeles, Schemel was raised in rural Marysville, Washington, where she developed an interest in punk rock music as a teenager. She began drumming at age eleven, and while in high school, formed several bands with her brother, Larry. Sophie Luise Elisabeth Muller (born 31 January 1962) is an English music video director who has directed over 300 music videos. Wipers was an American punk rock band formed in Portland, Oregon, in 1977 by guitarist and vocalist Greg Sage, along with drummer Sam Henry and bassist Dave Koupal.
