Miss Universe 1997 was the 46th Miss Universe pageant, held on 16 May 1997 at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Florida, United States. Brook Lee of the United States was crowned by Alicia Machado of Venezuela at the end of the event. Seventy-four delegates competed in this year. This is the first Miss Universe edition to be produced by Donald Trump. Brook Lee
Brook Antoinette Mahealani Lee (born January 8, 1971) is an American beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss Hawaii USA 1997, Miss USA 1997 and Miss Universe 1997. Lee was the first native Hawaiian to win the title of Miss Universe. Early life Lee is of Chinese, Korean, Native Hawaiian, Portuguese, French, Dutch and English ancestry. Her Korean grandfather emigrated to Hawaii in the 1950s. Lee's mother, Toni, was president of Na Pua Ke Ali'i Pauahi, an alumni association of the school that petitioned the board for reforms. Lee attended University Lab School for one year (1987–88) and graduated from Kamehameha Schools in 1989. She is a graduate of Chaminade University. Alexandra Petrova
Alexandra Valeryevna Petrova (; 18 September 1980 – 16 September 2000) was a Russian model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Russia 1996. She later competed in Miss Universe 1999, where she was unplaced. Life and career Petrova was born in Cheboksary, Chuvash ASSR to parents Valery Petrov and Tatyana Petrova. At age fourteen, she began studying at the Cheboksary School of Modeling, and later began taking part in beauty pageants. Petrova represented the city of Cheboksary in the Miss Russia 1996 competition, held in Veliky Novgorod. She went on to win the competition, at only sixteen years old. During her reign, she was also crowned Miss Model International. After her reign as Miss Russia ended, she crowned Yelena Rogozhina as her successor. The Miss Norway (formerly known as "Frøken Norge") is a national beauty pageant in Norway The pageant was founded in 1950, where the winners were sent to Miss Universe. History The Miss Norway was held for first time in 1950 by Dagbladet Magazine. Miss Great Britain is a national beauty contest held annually in Britain since 1945. It is Britain's longest-running beauty pageant. History Following World War Two, a number of seaside resorts around the United Kingdom introduced beauty contests. The first, held in Morecambe in 1945, went on to become Miss Great Britain. Miss World 1996, the 46th edition of the Miss World pageant, took place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, India on 23 November 1996. At the end of the event, Irene Skliva of Greece was crowned as Miss World 1996 by Jacqueline Aguilera of Venezuela. Skliva was the first Greek to win the title. Contestants from eighty-eighty countries and territories participated in this year's pageant. The pageant was hosted by Richard Steinmetz and Ruby Bhatia. Niamh Marie Redmond (born ) is an Irish former model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Ireland 1996. Born to parents Ronald and Orla, Redmond grew up the only female child with three brothers in Drimnagh. At the age of nineteen she represented Dublin at Miss Ireland and was crowned the winner. Miss World 1997, the 47th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 22 November 1997 at the Plantation Club Seychelles in Baie Lazare, Seychelles. 86 delegates competed for the coveted crown.
