Miss France 2010
Miss France 2010, the 63rd Miss France pageant, was held in Nice, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur on December 5, 2009. Malika Ménard of Normandy was crowned Miss France 2010 by the outgoing titleholder Chloé Mortaud of Albigeois Midi-Pyrénées, who was 5th runner-up at Miss Universe 2009 and 3rd runner-up at Miss World 2009. For the first time since 1987, Miss France was chosen by viewer voting, after the five finalists had been announced during the live broadcast. Only the judges had selected the five finalists out of the top twelve. The 37 contestants traveled to Martinique for fashion shoots, videos and interviews, from 13 to 21 November. Malika Ménard
Malika Ménard (born 14 July 1987) is a French model, television presenter, and beauty pageant titleholder, who was crowned Miss France 2010. She later represented France in Miss Universe 2010, placing in the Top 15. Life and career Early life Ménard was born on 14 July 1987 in Rennes, but later grew up in Hérouville-Saint-Clair. She received a ''baccalauréat'' degree in social sciences from Lycée Malherbe in Caen, and later began studying law at the University of Caen Normandy. She additionally worked as a hostess at Stade Michel d'Ornano and Stade Malherbe, Caen. Her name, Malika, means "queen" in Arabic, and is very common in many Arab and Berber communities. She was firstly believed to be of Kabyle Berber descent; however, she has clarified that she is "100% French", and that her mother named her Malika because they lived in Morocco. Miss World 2009, the 59th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 12 December 2009 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. 112 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown, marking the biggest turnout in the pageant's history. Ksenia Sukhinova of Russia crowned her successor Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar at the end of event. It is the first time that someone from Gibraltar won Miss World. Miss Universe 2009
Miss Universe 2009 was the 58th Miss Universe pageant, held at the Imperial Ballroom in Atlantis Paradise Island, Nassau, The Bahamas on August 23, 2009. At the end of the event, Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela crowned StefanÃa Fernández of Venezuela as Miss Universe 2009. This marks the first and so far, the only time in Miss Universe history that a country has won for two consecutive years. Contestants from 83 countries and territories competed in this year's pageant. The competition was hosted by Billy Bush and Claudia Jordan; Bush last served as host during Miss Universe 2005.
