Miss Brazil () is a Brazilian national beauty pageant, held annually since 1954. The competition has gone through several incarnations throughout its history, while its main purpose has been to select the Brazilian representative for the Miss Universe pageant. From 2020-2023, the pageant has been owned by Brazilian businessman Winston Ling, while Marthina Brandt has served as its national director. A beauty pageant is a competition in which the contestants are judged and ranked based on various physical and mental attributes. Miss Universe 1963 was the 12th Miss Universe pageant, held at the Miami Beach Auditorium in Miami Beach, Florida, United States on 20 July 1963. At the end of the event, Norma Nolan of Argentina crowned Iêda Maria Vargas of Brazil as Miss Universe 1963. It is the first victory of Brazil in the history of the pageant. The Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão (; SBT ; "Brazilian Television System") is a Brazilian free-to-air television network founded on Wednesday, 19 August 1981, by the businessman and television personality Silvio Santos. The Nilson Nelson Gymnasium (Ginásio Nilson Nelson) is an indoor sporting arena used mostly for volleyball located in Brasília, Brazil, which is near the Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha. Ginásio Gilberto Cardoso or Ginásio do Maracanãzinho, commonly known as the Maracanãzinho ("Little Maracanã" or "Mini Maracanã"), is an indoor arena located in Maracanã, Rio de Janeiro, Maracanã in the north zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Miss World is the oldest existing international beauty pageant. It was created in the United Kingdom by Eric Morley in 1951. Miss World 1971 was the 21st Miss World pageant, held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England, United Kingdom, on 10 November 1971. Jennifer Hosten of Grenada crowned Lúcia Petterle of Brazil at the end of the event. Although Petterle completed her reign as Miss World, she fell and broke her arm in the final month of her year and was unable to travel to London to participate in the Miss World 1972 contest. This edition marked the debut of Bermuda and Guam.
