Miss America 2009
Miss America 2009, the 82nd Miss America pageant, was held on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada on Saturday, January 24, 2009. The pageant was broadcast live on TLC from the Theatre for the Performing Arts at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, only the fourth time that the pageant has been held outside Atlantic City, New Jersey. Selection of contestants One delegate from each state was chosen in state pageants held in mid-2008. Prior to competing in state pageants, the majority of delegates first were required to win a local title. Each delegates title is pre-dated to 2008, for example Amanda Tapley is "Miss Alabama 2008" rather than "Miss Alabama 2009". Many contestants competed in state pageants in both the Miss America and Miss USA systems numerous times before winning titles, and some had previously in other states to those which they won their state title. Katie Stam
Katie R. Stam Irk (born July 9, 1986; née. Stam) is an American beauty queen from Seymour, Indiana, who was crowned Miss America 2009. Early life and education Stam was born to Keith and Tracy Stam, both middle school teachers, on July 9, 1986, in southern Indiana. Stam grew up on a dairy farm with her three siblings. She participated in 4-H as a child and showed dairy cattle at the Jackson County Fair. Stam graduated from Seymour High School in Seymour, Indiana, and later received her bachelor's degree in communication studies from the University of Indianapolis. Stam also interned at the Indianapolis news station, WTHR, in 2007. Pageantry Stam began competing in pageants at the age of 15, winning a local title before being named Kentuckiana Teen and advancing and winning her first national pageant. Miss New York
The Miss New York scholarship competition selects the representative for the state of New York in the Miss America scholarship competition. In the fall of 2018, the Miss America Organization terminated the Miss New York organization's license as well as licenses from Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and West Virginia. In March 2019, the license was awarded to Sloane Lewis and Jamie Hickman, along with a board of directors consisting of 13 members. Taryn Delanie Smith of Manhattan was crowned Miss New York 2022 on May 29, 2022 at the Paramount Theatre in Peekskill, New York. Alexandra Hoffman
Alexandra Hoffman (born November 10, 1987) is a beauty queen and athlete from Eureka, South Dakota, who competed in the Miss Teen USA pageant and placed in the Top 15 at Miss America 2009. Biography Pageants Hoffman won her first state pageant title in late 2006 when she was crowned Miss South Dakota Teen USA 2006, having placed in the semi-finals in pageant the year before. She later represented South Dakota in the Miss Teen USA 2006 pageant held in Palm Springs, California on August 11, 2006, but did not place. In the 2007 pageant, when she passed on her title to Kari Schull of Watertown, her sister Elizabeth placed second runner-up. Miss Delaware
The Miss Delaware competition is the pageant that selects the representative of Delaware in the Miss America pageant. The event takes place annually in the month of June and has previously been held in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware at Convention Hall, and in the state capital of Dover, Delaware at the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino. Miss Delaware serves as the official hostess to the state of Delaware. In 2017, the pageant was held at Cape Henlopen HS Theater in Lewes, Delaware. The Miss Kentucky competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Kentucky in the Miss America pageant. Kentucky has once won the Miss America crown.
