The Mishima (, ''Mishima ushi'') is a criticallyendangered Japanese breed of beef cattle. It is found only on Mishima Island, some north-west of Hagi, in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. It is one of six native Japanese cattle breeds, and one of two small populations that have never been cross-bred with Western cattle, the other being the Kuchinoshima breed from Kuchinoshima island in the Tokara Island group. History Cattle were brought to Japan from China at the same time as the cultivation of rice, in about the second century AD, in the Yayoi period. Mishima ware (三島焼) refers to different types of imported and adopted Japanese pottery. Mishima originally refers to the shimamono pottery imported from the islands of Taiwan, Luzon, and "Amakawa" (Macau). They were characterized by being roughly-made and often uneven, thus epitomizing the Japanese aesthetic of ''wabi-sabi''. In later centuries, it came to refer to imported ceramics (''Gohon'') from Korea with the slip inlay style. This style was imitated and produced locally in Japan. Mishima is a Catalan indie pop band from Barcelona, Spain. Formed in 1999, the band consists of David Carabén, Marc Lloret, Dani Vega, Xavi Caparrós, and Alfons Serra. The group's name refers to Japanese author Yukio Mishima.
