Miro Teixeira
Miro Teixeira (born May 27, 1945) is a Brazilian lawyer, politician and journalist. Background Teixeira graduated in Law at the Candido Mendes University. He operates from a political base in Rio de Janeiro. Political career He began his career with the Brazilian Democratic Movement (Movimento Democrático Brasileiro), an opposition party to the military regime. At the start of the 1980s, together with Tancredo Neves he helped in the founding of the Partido Popular in a centrist initiative to balance the Brazil political landscape. Afterwards, he allied himself with Leonel Brizola and entered the Democratic Labour Party (PDT) where he remained for two decades. In 1996 he was a candidate for the local district of Rio and achieved fourth place. In 2002, he supported Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the Brazilian Presidential election and was nominated to be Minister of Communications. The Chamber of Deputies () is a federal legislative body and the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil. The chamber comprises 513 deputies, who are elected by proportional representation to serve four-year terms. The current president of the chamber is the Deputy Hugo Motta ( Republicanos- PB), who was elected on 1 February 2025. Structure The number of deputies elected is proportional to the size of the population of the respective state (or of the Federal District) as of 1994. However, no delegation can be made up of less than eight or more than seventy seats. Thus the least populous state elects eight federal deputies and the most populous elects seventy. These restrictions favour the smaller states at the expense of the more populous states and so the size of the delegations is not exactly proportional to population. Leonel Brizola
Leonel de Moura Brizola (22 January 1922 – 21 June 2004) was a Brazilian politician. Launched into politics by Brazilian president Getúlio Vargas in the 1930–1950s, Brizola was the only politician to serve as elected governor of two Brazilian states. An engineer by training, Brizola organized the youth wing of the Brazilian Labour Party (1945), Brazilian Labour Party and served as state representative for Rio Grande do Sul and mayor of its capital, Porto Alegre.
