Miramar (Santurce)
Miramar is one of the forty subbarrios of Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico. The neighborhood has many historic Spanish Revival-style homes with patios and gardens, and it was listed on the Puerto Rico Register of Historic Sites and Zones in 2007 for its historical and architectural value. History The neighborhood is under the legal jurisdiction of Santurce in the municipality of San Juan, Puerto Rico. It first appears in the 16th century as a spring that fed water to the Spanish outpost of Old San Juan. During the Battle of San Juan (17 April – 2 May 1797), the town of Miramar was the site of the British ill-fated British assault on the Spanish colonial port city of San Juan de Puerto Rico during the 1796–1808 Anglo-Spanish War. Jorge Santini
Jorge Santini Padilla (born March 11, 1960) is a Puerto Rican politician who previously served as the mayor of San Juan. State Service In 1975, Santini became a member of the United States Marines Air Cadets Corps. At present, he is lieutenant colonel in the Puerto Rico State Guard, assigned to the Judge Advocate General's Corps. On September 18, 2002, President George W. Bush appointed Mayor Santini to serve on the National Infrastructure Advisory Council. As a member of the State Guard, Santini has never served in the military. Antonin Nechodoma
Antonin Nechodoma (1877–1928), was a Czech-American architect who practiced in Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic from 1905 to 1928. He is known for the introduction of the Prairie Style to the Caribbean and the integration of Arts and Crafts elements to his architecture. Nechodoma designed in such style at the historical district of Miramar, Puerto Rico where the town preserves his creation. Prairie School is a late 19th and early 20th-century architectural style, most common in the Midwestern United States. Campo Alegre and Alto del Cabro are two Barrios of Puerto Rico, subbarrios adjacent to each other with similar characteristics in the Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Barrio of Santurce. Condado Lagoon
Condado Lagoon () is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is an effluent body of water that flows freely between the Condado and Miramar neighborhoods of Santurce, a barrio of San Juan. Background Its tributary stream of water forms part of the San Juan Bay Estuary. An estuary is a coastal area where fresh water from rivers and other inland water sources mixes with salt water from the ocean. The Metropolitan Area of Puerto Rico is intersected by estuarine bodies of water, such as Condado Lagoon, Martín Peña Channel, San José Lagoon and Piñones Lagoon, among others. The Cucharillas Marsh is another part of this urban ecosystem.
