Mira (band)
Mira were an American five-piece dream pop/shoegaze band from Tallahassee, Florida, United States, formed in 1996. History Mira was formed by vocalist Regina Sosinski, guitarist Tom Parker, bassist Sam Riles and drummer Alan Donaldson. Originally called Still, they were influenced by shoegaze bands such as Slowdive and Cocteau Twins. After releasing several EPs on their own Tesseract label, the band signed to Projekt Records, and their song "Cayman" appeared on Projekt's cat-themed 1999 compilation ''A Cat-Shaped Hole in My Heart''. Max Fresen replaced Riles, and the band briefly added guitarist Jeff Engel. Mark Davidson would replace Engel. Then Fresen left to be replaced by Melody Fleck. Mira released their eponymous debut studio album on April 4, 2000. For second album ''Apart'', Melody Fleck replaced Fresen on bass, and the band toured the US. Cream Abdul Babar is one of the longest-standing bands in the Tallahassee scene. The band formed in 1994, combining elements of punk, metal, industrial, and noise to create their brand of experimental rock. The band's name is a play on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. History The band's original 5-piece lineup was ingerIan Powell, Tradd Sanderson and Dan Rozenblum playing guitar, David Sanderson on bass and Jason Caldwell on drums. In 1995 they released their first EP titled ''Chlamydia Lunch''. Shortly following their first release and tour, trombonist Mike Hagerty joined the band and appeared on the 1996 ''Cream Abdul Babar/I Guard the Sheep'' 7-inch split. In 1997, Cream Abdul Babar entered the studio with Tallahassee-based recording engineer, Tommy Hamilton, and exited with their first full-length record, "The Backwater of Masculine Ethics." ''In Music We Trust'' is a music webzine, publicity company, and record label based in Portland, Oregon. It was established as a webzine in July 1997 by Alex Steininger and his friend Ryan O'Neill. Its original goal was to help promote work by new artists. Steininger founded the website after losing his job at another online magazine, when he contacted O'Neill for his web design expertise and asked him for help. The website was named a "cool site" by the Open Directory Project. Record label In 2001, Steininger started In Music We Trust Records; its first release was Sean Croghan's debut solo album. Dream Pop
Dream pop (also typeset as dreampop) is a subgenre of alternative rock and neo-psychedelia that emphasizes atmosphere and sonic texture as much as pop melody. Common characteristics include breathy vocals, dense productions, and effects such as reverb, echo, tremolo, and chorus. It often overlaps with the related genre of shoegaze, and the two genre terms have at times been used interchangeably. The genre came into prominence in the 1980s through groups associated with the UK label 4AD, most prominently Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, and A.R. Kane. Cocteau Twins
Cocteau Twins were a Scottish rock music, rock band active from 1979 to 1997. They were formed in Grangemouth on the Firth of Forth by Robin Guthrie (guitars, drum machine) and Will Heggie (bass), adding Elizabeth Fraser (vocals) in 1981. In 1983, Heggie was replaced with multi-instrumentalist Simon Raymonde. The group earned critical praise for their ethereal, Audio signal processing, effects-laden sound and the soprano vocals of Fraser, whose lyrics often eschew any recognisable language. They pioneered the 1980s alternative rock, alternative subgenre of dream pop and helped define what would become shoegaze. Slowdive (stylized in lowercase) are an English people, English rock band that formed in Reading, Berkshire, in 1989. The band consists of Neil Halstead (vocals, guitars), Rachel Goswell (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Christian Savill (guitars), Nick Chaplin (bass), and Simon Scott (drummer), Simon Scott (drums, guitars, electronics), all of whom played on the band's early records.
