Mount Minto (Antarctica)
Mount Minto () is a lofty, mostly ice-free mountain rising to , located east of Mount Adam in the central portion of the Admiralty Mountains, Victoria Land, Antarctica. Discovery and name Mount Minto was discovered in January 1841 by Captain James Clark Ross, Royal Navy, who named it for Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 2nd Earl of Minto, then First Lord of the Admiralty. Location Mount Minto is at the head of the Ironside Glacier, which flows southeast, and to the east of the head of the Man-o-War Glacier, which flows west and then south. Earl of Minto, in the County of Roxburgh, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1813 for Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 1st Baron Minto. The current earl is Gilbert Timothy George Lariston Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 7th Earl of Minto (born 1953). The family seat is Minto Park, near Hawick in the Scottish Borders. The original family seat, Minto Castle, was demolished in 1992 after having been abandoned for some time. Madan Mohan Malaviya Park ''formerly known as'' Minto Park, is a park in Prayagraj, India. It is located in the southern part of the city along the banks of Yamuna river. The park is a historical site because in 1858 Earl Canning read out the declaration of Queen Victoria's Proclamation (at 1 November 1858), which resulted in the complete transfer of control over India from The East India Company to the government of Britain. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the event, the Earl of Minto installed a proclamation pillar in 1908. The marble pillar was topped with busts of Queen Victoria and Edward VII. In 1910, the park was named Minto Park. After independence, the marble busts atop the pillar were replaced by the Ashokan Lion Capital and park renamed Madan Mohan Malaviya Park. Minto ( Tanana: ''Menhti'') is a census-designated place (CDP) in Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area, Alaska, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the CDP is 150, down from 210 in 2010. The name is an anglicized version of the Lower Tanana Athabaskan name ''Menhti'' , meaning 'among the lakes'. After repeated flooding the village was relocated to its present location in 1969.
