The Attorney General's Office, Ministry of Justice, Human Rights and Institutional Reforms of Mauritius provides legal and legislative drafting services to the government of Mauritius. The Attorney General's Office interacts with the Legislature (National Assembly), Judiciary (Courts) and the Executive (Government/Ministries) branches, as well as provides assistance to the courts based on the powers vested in the office. In most instances, the Attorney General simultaneously serves as the Minister of Justice (the titles mainly pronounced in articles and sources issued after 2010). Sir Rabindrah Ghurburrun (Tamil: சர் இரவீந்திர குருபரன்) (1928–2008) was the first Vice President of Mauritius from 1992 to 1997. He started his political career as a member of the Mauritius Labour Party. However, he was appointed by the Mauritian Militant Movement-Militant Socialist Movement coalition government as vice president while the Labour Party was in the opposition. Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra
Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra (born in Great Britain) is a Mauritian lawyer, politician and diplomat. She is the head of the Public Bodies Appeal Tribunal (PBAT), which settles disputes of civil servants and local communities in matters related to recruitment and sanctions since 2009. She was Minister of Women’s Rights and Family Affairs from 1982 to 1983, and became the Mayor of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill in 1987. She was Ombudsman for protection of children's rights from 2004 to 2011. She was the first Muslim woman to be elected as a member of the National Assembly and in a ministerial position in mauritius. Sir Anerood Jugnauth, Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, GCSK, Padma Vibhushan, PV, (29 March 1930 – 3 June 2021) was a Mauritian politician and barrister who served both as President of Mauritius, President and Prime Minister of Mauritius. Sir Satcam Boolell GCSK, MP, QC, Kt (September 11, 1920 – March 23, 2006) was a Mauritian politician who served as member of the Legislative Assembly in Mauritius. He died on March 23, 2006 in Curepipe. He was also known as "Somduth" by his peers and family members. Early life and education Born in 1920 on the Gros Billot sugar estate (between New Grove and GrosBois in Grand Port, to his father Sahadewoo Boolell and mother Cossilah Choony, Satcam Boolell grew up with five siblings. In the mid 1800s his grandfather had migrated from the village of Singarmau located in Jaunpore, now a district of Uttar Pradesh, India. Jaya Krishna Cuttaree, GCSK (June 22, 1941-19 December 2018) was a Mauritian politician. Early life and education The son of a tailor, Jayen Cuttaree grew up in Rose Hill, Mauritius. He was the descendant of Indian immigrants who had landed in Mauritius in the 19th century during which it was a British colony. Cuttaree attended Royal College Curepipe in Mauritius. He was granted a scholarship which enabled him to travel to Scotland to study Forestry. He graduated with a BSc in Forestry from the University of Edinburgh. Politics of Mauritius (french: Politique à Maurice) takes place in a framework of a parliamentary democracy. The separation of powers is among the three branches of the Government of Mauritius, namely the legislative, the executive and the Judiciary, is embedded in the Constitution of Mauritius.
