Ministry Of Finance (Iraq)
The Ministry of Finance (MoF; ) is a central government ministry of Iraq whose task is to formulate financial policies of the state, receive and manage all of its revenues, prepare the general budget bill, oversee government expenditure, and operate a number of agencies. The two largest banks in Iraq, namely Rafidain and Rasheed, as well several other enterprises, are operated by the Ministry of Finance. It publishes a monthly report called the Open Budget Survey. The headquarters is located in Bab al-Muadham, east of the river Tigris, Baghdad. The incumbent Minister of Finance since 27 October 2022 is Taif Sami Mohammed. Sir Abdul Muhsin al-Sa‘doun, KCMG (; 1879 – 13 November 1929) was an Iraqi politician who served as Prime Minister of Iraq on four occasions between 1922 and 1929. Background and early career Abd al-Muhsin al-Sa'doun hailed from a family descended from the Sa'douns, the most powerful tribe within the Muntafiq Confederation. In the mid-nineteenth century, the Ottoman Empire fostered rivalries between the dominant Sa'dun chiefs by offering enticing land deals to the highest bidders among them, pursuant to a policy of tribal weakening and division. In 1871 Midhat Pasha finally split the chiefs in two between "Ottomanizers" and their opponents by offering some chiefs permanent ownership of once communal tribal lands, when, previously, they could only exact tribute from farmers. Sayyid Salih Jabr (; 1896–1957) was an Iraqi statesman who served as Prime Minister of Iraq from March 1947 to January 1948. Jabr was the first Shi'i Muslim to become the prime minister of his country and throughout his career held several offices around the country such as the office of minister of justice, education, foreign affairs, interior, and finance. Early life and activities Sayyid Salih Jabr was born in Nasiriyya in 1896. Graduating from Baghdad Law School, Jabr would pursue in becoming a judge and served as one from 1926 until he was elected as part of the Iraqi Parliament in 1930. Ali Mumtaz al-Daftary () was an Iraqi nationalist-oriented politician, held several posts in the Kingdom of Iraq, including parliamentary and ministerial positions. Biography He was born in 1901. Rustam Haidar (; 1889 – 22 January 1940) was an Iraqi politician of Lebanese descent who served as Minister of Finance of the Kingdom of Iraq from 1930 to 1932 and from 1938 to 1940. He also was an aide to King Faisal I, Defense Minister, and Finance Minister of Iraq. Rustam Haidar is considered an important figure in the history of the modern Iraqi state and worked in many Iraqi ministries despite being of Lebanese origin. Joining the forces of Faisal I, he was a companion of the young emir throughout his life until his death during a trip to Switzerland.
