The Ministry of Education (, ; abbreviated MOE) is the Politics of Myanmar, Myanmar government government agency, agency responsible for education in Myanmar. Brief History The Ministry of Education aims to nurture future oriented advanced science and technology professionals, support national economic development and promote research. In order to rectify and strengthen its objectives, Ministry of Education expanded into new Ministry of Science and Technology in 1996. This ministry focused on research and development, intellectual property, standardization, quality assuring, basic infrastructure development, nuclear safety and human resource development. In 2016, the five departments from Ministry of Science and Technology merged with Ministry of Education with the aim of forming momentum in national development. Naypyidaw (), officially Romanization of Burmese, romanized as Nay Pyi Taw (NPT), is the capital city, capital and third-largest city of Myanmar. The city is located at the centre of the Naypyidaw Union Territory. Education In Myanmar
The educational system of Myanmar (also known as Burma) is operated by the government Ministry of Education. Universities and professional institutes from upper Burma and lower Burma are run by two separate entities, the Departments of Higher Education (Lower Burma and Upper Burma), whose office headquarters are in Yangon and Mandalay respectively. The modern education system is based on the system implemented during British rule in Burma. "The first Government high school was founded by the British colonial administration in 1874. Two years later, this Government High School was upgraded and became University College, Rangoon." Nearly all schools are government-operated, but recently, there has been an increase in privately funded schools (which specialise in English). Myo Thein Gyi (; born 2 September 1965) is the former Minister for Education of Myanmar. He previously served as Professor of Mathematics Department, Dagon University, Director General of Department of Myanmar Education Research and Rector of West Yangon University. Aung San Suu Kyi (born 19 June 1945) is a Burmese politician, diplomat, author, and political activist. She was awarded the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize. Khin San Yee
Khin San Yi (; also spelt Khin San Yee) is a Burmese development economist, previously served as Minister for Education of Myanmar and Minister for Science and Technology of Myanmar from February 2014 to 30 March 2016. She became the second Burmese woman to be appointed minister by the Thein Sein administration. She was appointed by Thein Sein after the death of her predecessor, Mya Aye and Ko Ko Oo, in December 2013 and December 2015. U Razak
U Razak (Urdu: ; ; , ; also Abdul Razak; 20 January 1898 – 19 July 1947) was a Burmese politician and an educationalist. Of mixed Bamar-Indian ancestry, he was a cabinet minister in Aung San's pre-independence interim government, and was assassinated on 19 July 1947 along Sung San and six other cabinet ministers. July 19 is commemorated each year as Martyrs' Day in Myanmar. Razak was Minister of Education and National Planning, and was chairman of the Burma Muslim Congress. Abdul Razak was born in Meiktila, Upper Burma, on 20 January 1898 to Nyein Hla, a Buddhist of Bamar descent, and Sheik Abdul Rahman, a wealthy Indian police inspector. Ba Maw
Ba Maw (, ; 8 February 1893 – 29 May 1977), known honorifically as Dr. Ba Maw, was a Burmese lawyer and politician, active during the interwar period and Second World War. He was the first Burma Premier (1937–1939) and head of State of Burma from 1943 to 1945. Early life and education Ba Maw was born in Maubin. He came from a distinguished family of mixed Mon-Bamar parentage. His father, Shwe Kye was an ethnic Mon from Amherst (now Kyaikkhami) and well-versed in French and English languages.
