Minister For Gaming And Racing
The New South Wales Minister for Gaming and Racing is a minister in the Government of New South Wales with responsibilities for the oversight of hospitality and for racing in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Role and responsibilities Racing became a portfolio for the first time in the Unsworth ministry. The minister was responsible for regulating bookmakers and the control of greyhound, trotting and horse racing, racecourse development and the management of the NSW Totalisator Agency Board. With the establishment of the Sydney Harbour Casino in 1995, the portfolio included the Casino Control Board. The portfolio was abolished in the Second Berejiklian ministry and responsibility shared by the Minister for Customer Service and the Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation, before being re-established in the second Perrottet ministry. David Harris (Australian Politician)
David Robert Harris (born 24 February 1966) is an Australian politician. He has served as the New South Wales Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Treaty, Gaming and Racing, Veterans, Medical Research and the Central Coast since April 2023. He has been a Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly since 2015, representing the electorate of Wyong. He previously represented the same electorate from 2007 to 2011. Personal life and early career Harris is one of three children and grew up in Greenacre in Sydney. His parents later moved to the New South Wales Central Coast. Harris attended Woy Woy South Public School and Woy Woy High School, where became school captain. In 1987, Harris joined the Umina branch of the Labor Party, eventually becoming the president of the Wyong branch, and then secretary of Dobell Federal Electoral Council. The Star Sydney (formerly Star City Casino and prior to that, Sydney Harbour Casino) in Pyrmont, Sydney, is the second largest casino in Australia after Melbourne's Crown Casino.
